IITD Project Scientist Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi), through its Industrial Research and Development (IRD) Unit, is hiring a Project Scientist for the Department of Electrical Engineering. The post sits under the project TDOA-based RF emitter localization (project code RP05049G), funded by the Directorate of Futuristic Technology Management (DFTM) and led by Prof. Seshan Srirangarajan.

The work is about finding where radio signals come from by comparing their arrival times at several receivers. This is a hands-on hardware and software role — you will be building and testing embedded systems and software defined radios, not just analysing data. It suits an electronics graduate who enjoys programming boards like Raspberry Pi and STM32 and wants research experience at one of India's top technical institutes.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Nature of appointment: Contractual on a consolidated pay, renewed every year or up to the end of the project, whichever comes first.
• Project tenure: The project currently runs up to 22 June 2028, so the job is tied to that timeline.
• Nationality: Only Indian nationals can appear for the walk-in.
• Marks relaxation: SC/ST candidates may get a 5% relaxation in marks.
• Retired employees: If a retired or superannuated government employee is selected, the pay is fixed as per IRD norms.
• Existing IIT Delhi staff: Anyone already working at the Institute or IRD will be interviewed only if their application is forwarded by their own establishment or section.

Application Submission Notes

This is a walk-in test / interview, so there is no online form. Bring a filled-in Form No. IRD/REC-4, which you can download from the IRD website (ird.iitd.ac.in/rec). The form should show your marks percentage in every exam you passed, your work experience and a recent passport-size photo.

• Program and work with Raspberry Pi, microcontrollers and embedded Linux boards such as STM32, ESP32 and Arduino
• Set up software defined radios (SDRs) for RF signal acquisition and connect them to embedded computing platforms
• Write Python and C/C++ code, including embedded firmware and real-time data acquisition
• Develop, integrate, test, debug and validate hardware and software systems on your own
• Handle hardware integration, PCB and system-level interfacing, and troubleshooting of electronic systems
• Support TDOA-based localization of RF emitters for the DFTM-funded project
