IIT Delhi Junior Project Attendant Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi), through its Industrial Research and Development (IRD) Unit, is hiring a Junior Project Attendant for the Department of Applied Mechanics. The post sits in the project Hydrodynamics of Submerged Underwater Objects to Better Understand the Detection and Stealth (RM00183G), funded by the Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL) and led by Prof. Narsing Kumar Jha.

This is a rare IIT Delhi project post open to candidates with just a Class 10 pass. The catch is the experience: you need to have already helped with experimental work in a fluid mechanics laboratory — running research setups, handling pumps and pressure-measuring instruments, and keeping the lab equipment clean and working.

Selection is through a walk-in test or interview on the Hauz Khas campus, so there is no online form to fill. The job is on contract with consolidated pay, which makes it a good way to gain hands-on lab experience at a top engineering institute, but it is not a permanent government post.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Nature of appointment: Purely contractual on consolidated pay, renewed every year or until the project ends on 28 May 2028, whichever comes first.
• Nationality: Only Indian nationals can appear.
• Marks relaxation: SC/ST candidates may get a 5% relaxation in marks.
• Retired employees: If a retired or superannuated government employee is selected, the pay is fixed as per the prevailing IRD norms.
• Existing IIT Delhi staff: Anyone already working at the Institute or IRD is interviewed only if the application is forwarded by their own establishment or section.

Report at Room No. 233, Block No. 3, Department of Applied Mechanics, IIT Delhi, Hauz Khas, New Delhi 110016 from 3:00 PM on the walk-in day. Bring a filled Form No. IRD/REC-4, which you can download from the IRD website (ird.iitd.ac.in/rec).
