IIM Mumbai Assistant Professor Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Management Mumbai (IIM Mumbai), the former NITIE Mumbai set up by the Government of India in 1963, is hiring Assistant Professors at Grade-I and Grade-II through its general faculty advertisement ADMN/RECTT/FACULTY/2025/08. The institute is placed 6th among management schools in NIRF 2025 and works closely with the corporate houses of India's financial capital.

This is a rolling advertisement, so there is no fixed closing date — posts stay open until IIM Mumbai fills them. The institute screens applications area by area whenever an academic group needs faculty. If you hold a PhD in a management discipline and publish in good journals, you can send your application at any time.

Posts and Disciplines

• Assistant Professor (Grade-I): for PhD holders who already have at least three years of teaching, research or industry work outside the PhD period.
• Assistant Professor (Grade-II): the starting grade for new PhDs; experience is welcome but not compulsory, and you can apply once your viva voce is over and the PhD is provisionally awarded.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Publications decide shortlisting: Only papers in Web of Science Q1/Q2 journals in your subject count as research evidence. FT50 papers are strongly encouraged, and Q1 papers where you are first or communicating author get extra weight.
• Preferred methods: You get preference if your research uses AI, machine learning, operations research, simulation or advanced statistical modelling.
• Probation: A regular appointment starts with two years of probation. Faculty who fail to meet the teaching and publication standard in that time can be relieved under institute rules.
• Career movement: Grade-I faculty shift to a higher academic pay level after three years but keep the Assistant Professor title; Grade-II faculty move up under IIM Mumbai's elevation rules.
• Contract offers: Depending on your record, IIM Mumbai may offer a one- or two-year contract instead of a regular post, and the selection committee can place you in a different position than the one you applied for.
• Experience and degrees: Part-time work is not counted as experience, and every degree must be from a UGC-recognised university or AICTE-approved institution.
• Serving employees: If you work in a government or semi-government body, apply through proper channel or attach a No Objection Certificate. Staff of foreign institutions are exempt.
• Foreign passport holders: You need political and security clearance from the Ministries of External Affairs and Home Affairs.
• Research support: Faculty get a research seed grant and a professional development fund, and may take up to 52 days a year of consultancy with no cap on earnings.
