IIM Mumbai Faculty Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Management Mumbai (IIM Mumbai), known as NITIE Mumbai until it became an IIM, has issued a rolling faculty advertisement for Associate Professor and Assistant Professor posts. Set up by the Government of India in 1963 and ranked 6th among management institutes in NIRF 2025, the institute sits in Mumbai with close links to the city's corporate houses.

This drive has a clear tilt: Artificial Intelligence, Digital Transformation and Analytics are the priority areas. Candidates with exceptional academic or industry work in AI/ML may get relaxation in qualification and experience. Because it is a rolling advert, positions stay open until they are filled, so there is no fixed closing date.

Posts and Disciplines

• Associate Professor: for Ph.D. holders with a strong research and publication record and several years at Assistant Professor (Grade-I) level at a reputed institution.
• Assistant Professor (Grade-I): for Ph.D. holders who already have post-Ph.D. teaching, research or industry experience.
• Assistant Professor (Grade-II): the entry-level post. Experience is helpful but not essential, and you can apply once you have defended your Ph.D. viva with a provisional award.

You can apply in six academic areas:

• Analytics and Decision Science
• Economics and Strategy
• Finance and Accounting
• Marketing
• Organisational Behaviour and Human Resources (OBHR)
• Digitisation in Supply Chain and Operations Management

Within these areas, the institute is keen on Agentic AI, machine learning and GenAI applications, digital commerce and ecosystems, and advanced data analytics, business intelligence and big data.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Probation: Regular appointments carry a two-year probation. Assistant Professors at Level 10 or 11 who do not meet the teaching and publication criteria during probation can be relieved from service.
• Grade-I progression: After three years in Grade-I, you move to a higher academic pay level while keeping the Assistant Professor designation.
• Contract offers: If you have less than the needed experience, the institute may offer a contractual Grade-II post, with a path to a regular Grade-I post later.
• Different post offer: The selection committee can recommend you for a different position than the one you applied for, on regular or contract terms.
• Research record: Only papers in Web of Science Q1/Q2 journals count as research evidence; FT50 publications get extra weight. Qualifications are not relaxed, though experience may be for exceptional candidates.
• Part-time experience: Experience gained part-time is not counted for shortlisting.
• Consultancy: Institutional consultancy of up to 52 days a year is allowed with no upper limit on income.
• Foreign passport holders: You need political and security clearance from the Ministries of External Affairs and Home Affairs.

• Attach reprints of your three best papers in Web of Science Q1/Q2 journals, the impact factor of every journal paper, and your first or communicating-author details.
• Send a separate application for each area you want to be considered in.
• If you work in a government, semi-government or educational body, apply through proper channel or provide a No Objection Certificate; staff of foreign institutions are exempt.
• If you applied in the last two years, highlight the substantial improvement in your CV since then.
