IIT ISM JRF Chemistry Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad (IIT ISM) is recruiting a Junior Research Fellow for a sponsored project under the TexMiN Foundation. Dr. Madhulika Gupta of the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology leads the project, which explores artificial intelligence and multiscale modelling for sustainable rare-earth recovery.

The research focuses on secondary resources such as mine tailings, fly ash, industrial residues and electronic waste. Its aim is to improve rare-earth recovery while reducing environmental impacts and supporting a circular economy. The project brings computational modelling and experimental validation into the same research framework, linking the behaviour of extraction processes across different scales.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Project tenure: The engagement is for eighteen months or until project completion, whichever comes earlier. You should plan around this project-linked term.
• Possible conversion: The position may be converted to a regular institute JRF at any point, subject to IIT ISM rules. The notice describes a possibility, so you should not treat conversion as automatic.
• Shortlisting: Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee an interview invitation. The institute will consider merit together with the needs of this particular project.
