Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) Junior Research Fellow Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

The Department of Geology at Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN), Thiruvarur, is recruiting 1 Junior Research Fellow to work on an Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF)-funded project titled "Structural Control of the Main Himalayan Thrust on the Interseismic Plate Coupling Revealed from GNSS and InSAR Observations." The initial appointment is for 1 year, and the position is renewable each year based on your performance, up to a maximum of 3 years or until the project ends, whichever comes first. This role is based in the Satellite Geodesy (SAGE) Laboratory and suits candidates interested in GNSS/InSAR data analysis and tectonic research.

The position is purely temporary and tied to the project's funding and duration, so it will not convert into a regular university post. If you are a fresh postgraduate in earth sciences with a NET or GATE score, or someone already working on geospatial data analysis, this fellowship gives you hands-on research exposure at a central university while you build your research profile for future opportunities such as a Ph.D.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: M.Sc./M.Tech./Integrated M.Sc./BS-MS in Applied Geology, Geology, Geophysics, Geodesy, Geoinformatics, or an equivalent degree from a recognised university, institute, or R&D lab.
• Marks: You need at least 60% marks (General/OBC) or 55% (SC/ST/PH) in your qualifying degree.
• Mandatory test: You must have a valid CSIR/UGC-NET or GATE score. Without this, your application will not be considered for the JRF position.
• Preferred skills: Experience with GNSS/GPS or InSAR data processing, tectonic deformation studies in seismically active regions, and basic programming knowledge (Linux, Python, or MATLAB) for data analysis and modelling will be an advantage.

Age Limit

• You should not be older than 28 years to apply.
• Age Relaxation: Available for reserved categories as per Government of India rules.

Salary

• You will get Rs. 37,000 per month plus HRA as per norms.
• This is a fellowship for a temporary, project-based position — it does not carry a regular government pay scale or increments.

Selection Process

1. Screening of Applications: Your academic credentials, NET/GATE score, and research experience will be evaluated first.
2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed online (via Google Meet) or offline. The date, time, and meeting link will be shared by email. No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview.

The final selection will be based on your performance in the interview along with your academic credentials.
