Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), a Maharatna public sector company, has released Advertisement No. TP-05/2026 for 2 Assistant Technical Consultant posts at its Jhansi unit. This is a retired-employee style consultancy engagement meant for highly experienced technical hands who can support power transformer testing or diesel locomotive assembly work. BHEL is India's largest power equipment manufacturer, and its Jhansi unit specializes in large power transformers and diesel-electric locomotive traction equipment, so hands-on shop-floor testing experience matters a lot for this role. No written exam is required — selection is based on scrutiny of your application and, if shortlisted, a short interaction with a Selection Board. This engagement is ideal for retired BHEL, Railways, or other PSU technicians who want to put their decades of testing expertise to use again.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: ITI passed with National Trade Certificate (NTC) in Electrician trade.
• Experience (Option A): Minimum 15 years of post-qualification experience in testing of higher rating Power Transformers up to 400 KV class, including fully assembled final testing, stage testing, knowledge of testing equipment/instruments, test connections and fault-finding.
• Experience (Option B): Minimum 15 years of post-qualification experience in Locomotive assembly, with operational knowledge of testing equipment/instruments, test connections, fault-finding and trouble-shooting, plus experience of erection and commissioning of diesel electric shunting locomotives at site.
• You need to meet either of the above two experience routes — not both.

Age Limit

• You should not be more than 64 years of age to apply for this consultancy engagement.
• Ex-Servicemen: The duration of engagement will be 5 years or till 65 years of age, whichever is earlier.

Salary

• You will get a consolidated fee of Rs. 40,000 per month.
• Mobile phone charges of up to Rs. 2,000 for one connection will be reimbursed.
• HRA will be paid as per applicable rates.
• Transport allowance will be paid at 10% of the consultancy fee.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Your selection will happen in these steps:

1. Application Scrutiny: A committee will screen all applications received against the notification.
2. Interaction/Interview: Shortlisted candidates may be called for an interaction, if required, by a duly constituted Selection Board.

If you are called from outstation for the interaction, you will be reimbursed travel expenses by the shortest route — AC-II Sleeper fare by rail, or actual road expenses limited to AC-II Sleeper train fare.
