Bengal Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals Limited (BCPL), a Government of India enterprise, needs a Legal Retainer for its Legal Department at the corporate office in Kolkata. The retainer reports to the Managing Director and works with department heads on service, labour, commercial, contractual, corporate and statutory matters. This is a professional engagement rather than a regular company appointment, suited to an experienced practising advocate who can combine written advice, drafting, litigation support and management-facing counsel.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: The retainer arrangement runs for three years and does not give you a right to regular appointment, absorption or continued service with BCPL.
• Office commitment: You must work at least 130 hours across a minimum of 16 days each month, with attendance on at least four days per week at the corporate office.
• Extra attendance: Court work, meetings or an urgent company matter may need additional presence. The notice says this does not carry an extra professional fee.
• Availability: You must remain reachable by telephone or email during working hours on all days, even when you are not scheduled at the office.
