CSIR-NBRI Project Associate Recruitment 2026: Overview

CSIR-National Botanical Research Institute (CSIR-NBRI), Lucknow is holding walk-in interviews for project staff under advertisement 10/Project/2026. NBRI is a plant-science laboratory of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) that runs both basic and applied research. These are purely temporary positions funded by sponsored projects, spread across four research areas: science management and outreach, molecular biology, product development and plant genetic resources.

If you have a master's degree in plant, life or chemical sciences, or a B.Sc. or engineering diploma for the assistant post, this drive gives you hands-on research work at a national laboratory. Each research area interviews on its own day, so check your area's date before you travel.

Posts and Disciplines

• Jigyasa posts (Area I): CSIR Jigyasa is a science-outreach programme. Experience in science communication, a B.Ed. or a mass communication diploma is a plus for the associate roles.
• Genomics roles (Areas II and IV): suited to you if you have worked with large-data analysis, bioinformatics or molecular markers in crop breeding.
• Materials roles (Area III): one post wants nanoparticle fabrication and formulation experience; the other wants hands-on work in extracting and processing plant materials.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: Your engagement ends with the project, and continues only with satisfactory progress and CSIR funding.
• Six-year cap: Total project-staff service in CSIR cannot cross 6 years (7 years in limited cases of short industry-funded projects).
• Panel: The selection committee forms a panel of recommended candidates, used as and when projects in that field need staff.
• Higher stipend: For Project Associate-I posts with two stipend levels, the higher rate is for candidates who cleared CSIR-UGC NET (including lectureship), GATE or a similar national exam.
• Experience counting: Experience counts only from the date you got the minimum qualification.
• CGPA holders: Convert your grades to a percentage using your university's own formula.
• No TA/DA: You will not get travel allowance for attending.
• Number of posts: The number of positions may change at the time of selection.

Application Submission Notes

There is no online form. The application form is given at the venue, or you can download it in advance from www.nbri.res.in. Report at K. N. Kaul Block, CSIR-NBRI, Rana Pratap Marg, Lucknow at least one hour before the 11:00 am start on your research area's interview day for document checks. Result-awaited candidates and provisional mark sheets are not considered.

If many candidates turn up, NBRI may hold a short multiple-choice screening test, and interviews may run late into the evening or the next day. Plan your travel and stay accordingly. You can speak in Hindi or English before the committee.
