NIT Kurukshetra JRF Recruitment 2026: Overview

National Institute of Technology Kurukshetra (NIT Kurukshetra) is hiring a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) for the SAKSHAM project — "Scientific Advancements in Knowledge for Sustainability, Healthcare, and Materials". The project is funded by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) under its PAIR programme, with NIT Kurukshetra working as the spoke institution and IIT Indore as the hub.

SAKSHAM has three themes — Advanced Materials, Environmental Sustainability and Energy Technology, and Health and Medical Technologies. This opening sits in the Advanced Materials theme, on a sub-project titled "Mid-IR Light Generation in Nonlinear Materials using Four-Wave-Mixing", led by Dr. Than Singh Saini as Lead Co-PI. If you have a postgraduate degree in Physics, another basic science or engineering and want to move into photonics research, this is a project-based fellowship that can also lead to a PhD at NIT Kurukshetra.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: The first appointment runs up to 30 June 2027. It can continue till September 2029 or the end of the project, whichever comes first, based on your semester-wise performance.
• Work location can shift: You will mainly work at NIT Kurukshetra, but the workplace may move between NIT Kurukshetra and IIT Indore (Simrol campus) as the project needs.
• Final-year students can apply: If you have submitted your Master's dissertation but your final-semester result is not out yet, you can still apply. You must submit the result by 31 December 2026, or any JRF offer made to you will be cancelled.
• Marks relaxation: The required aggregate is relaxed by 5% (or 0.5 CGPA) for SC, ST and PwD candidates.
• PhD route: The selected fellow will be encouraged to register for a PhD at NIT Kurukshetra under the institute's rules.
• Written test exemption: Candidates who have qualified GATE, NET or another national-level test skip the written test and go straight to the interview.
• No TA/DA: You will not be paid travel costs for the written test or interview, both held in person at NIT Kurukshetra.
