JMI Consultant Recruitment 2026: Overview

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), the central university in New Delhi, wants to engage Consultants on a contract basis for two roles: one in the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Engineering & Technology and one for the FTK-Centre for Information Technology (FTK-CIT). Only people who have retired from Central Government, State Government or autonomous bodies can apply, so this is a re-employment opportunity for experienced retirees rather than an opening for fresh candidates.

The pay, leave and allowances follow the Department of Expenditure O.M. No. 3-25-2020-E-IIIA dated 09.12.2020, the standard Government of India rule for engaging retired officials as consultants. The Recruitment & Promotion Section of the Registrar's office is running the drive under Local Advt. No. 08/2026-27.

Posts and Disciplines

• Consultant, Dean's Office (Faculty of Engineering & Technology): an administration role for a retiree with a background in human resource management who has worked in a supervisory capacity at Level 10 or above and knows Government of India and autonomous-body rules well.
• Consultant, FTK-Centre for Information Technology: a technical role for someone with a Master's in Computer Science, Computer Applications or an allied subject, who has run large CMS-based university portals, handled e-mail and group accounts, administered a Google Workspace account, and is comfortable with web technologies such as CSS and JavaScript.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Who can apply: Retired employees of Central/State Government or autonomous bodies only, in good health at the time of applying.
• Initial term: You are engaged for three months at first, or until you turn 65, whichever comes earlier; extensions depend on performance and need, case by case.
• Full-time work: The job is full-time, and you cannot take up other work during the engagement. Normal hours are 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, but you may be asked to stay late or come in on weekends and holidays.
• Notice period: Either side can end the engagement with one month's notice; if you resign, you serve the notice or give up one month's pay instead.
• Tax: TDS is deducted from your monthly pay, and the DDO issues a TDS certificate on request.
• Shortlisting: The university may use its own criteria to shortlist candidates for the interview. The interview date will be announced later.
• Rejections: Incomplete or late applications are rejected, and canvassing in any form disqualifies you.
• Travel costs: No TA or DA is paid for attending the interview.
