ABV-IIITM JRF Recruitment 2026: Overview

Atal Bihari Vajpayee Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management (ABV-IIITM), Gwalior — an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Education — is looking for a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in its Department of Engineering Sciences. The fellow will join a sponsored research project titled "Investigation of MgO Nanosheets and Nanoribbons for Spintronic Device Applications", led by Prof. Pankaj Srivastava as Principal Investigator with Dr. Somesh Kumar as Co-PI.

This is a project-based, temporary fellowship, not a regular institute post. The work sits at the meeting point of materials science and spintronics — studying how ultra-thin magnesium oxide structures behave so they can be used in future electronic devices. If you have a solid-state physics or electronics background and have already worked with ab-initio (first-principles) calculations, you are exactly the profile the team prefers.

Post-graduates in Physics, Applied Physics, Engineering Physics, Nanotechnology, Materials Science or Electronics can apply. A JRF post like this is also a common first step towards a PhD, since you get hands-on research experience inside a funded project.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: The position is initially for one year and may be extended until the project ends, but only if your performance is satisfactory.
• Terms: The appointment follows the rules of the funding agency and the institute; it gives no claim to a permanent job.
• NET/GATE for M.Sc holders: If your qualifying degree is an M.Sc, you must hold a valid NET (JRF) or GATE score. The notice does not attach this condition to M.Tech holders.
• Marks cut-off: Your qualifying degree needs at least 60% marks or a CGPA of 6.5 on a 10-point scale.
• Age preference: The notice says candidates should preferably be below 28 years as on the closing date — it is a preference, not a strict bar.
• Higher shortlisting criteria: If many applications arrive, the selection committee may raise the bar for shortlisting.
• Interview: Only shortlisted candidates get an email with the interview date, and the interview may be held offline or online.
