About This Job

NIT Silchar is hiring 1 Junior Research Fellow (JRF) for the TARANG 6G wireless communication project in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering. NIT Silchar JRF Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

National Institute of Technology Silchar (NIT Silchar), an Institute of National Importance, has released Advertisement No. NITS/Dean(R&C)/ECE./689/02/2026 for one JRF post under the TTDF/DoT scheme. The project title is TARANG: Design of Terahertz Wireless Communications Systems for 6G. This is a research role for candidates interested in terahertz wireless channels, AI-based beam training, low-complexity resource management and future 6G communication systems.

The project is sponsored by TTDF/DoT, Government of India. The position is temporary and linked to the project duration of 3 years or project closure, whichever is earlier. Performance will be reviewed every 12 months, and the JRF may be promoted to SRF after completing two years successfully.

Project work: The research aims to develop technologies that handle propagation loss in terahertz channels and use AI for beam training and resource management. This role is best for candidates comfortable with communication theory, modelling, simulation and coding.

Who Can Apply?

Educational Qualification

  • ECE route: You can apply with B.Tech/B.E. or equivalent degree in ECE.
  • UG + PG route: You can also apply with B.Tech/B.E. or equivalent in ECE and M.Tech/M.E. in ECE or equivalent.
  • GATE/NET: Candidates with or without valid GATE/NET can apply, if they meet the marks/CGPA rules.

Marks and CGPA Conditions

  • GEN / GEN-EWS / OBC-NCL: Minimum 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA at both UG and PG level, where applicable.
  • SC / ST / PwD: Minimum 55% marks or 6.0 CGPA at both UG and PG level, where applicable.
  • Bachelor's-only route: Engineering/Technology bachelor's degree with at least 70% marks or 7.5 CGPA for GEN/GEN-EWS/OBC-NCL, and 65% marks or 7.0 CGPA for SC/ST/PwD.

Desirable Knowledge

  • Technical areas: Digital communication, probability theory, optimization and wireless communications.
  • Programming: Experience with MATLAB or Python will help in this project.
  • Research interest: Terahertz communication, AI-aided beam training and resource management are directly relevant to the project.

Age Limit

  • Maximum age: 35 years.

Salary

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Responsibilities

  • Work on terahertz wireless communication system design for the TARANG 6G project

  • Prepare research notes, reports and project documentation for review

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

B.Tech/B.E. or equivalent degree in ECE; or B.Tech/B.E. in ECE with M.Tech/M.E. in ECE or equivalent, with required marks/CGPA as per category

Preferred Qualification

Valid GATE/NET, strong understanding of digital communication, probability theory, optimization and wireless communications
