About This Job

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) is hiring 1 Research Assistant and 3 Field Investigators for an ICSSR-funded project at the Centre for North East Studies and Policy Research. If you have a postgraduate degree in Social Science with at least 55% marks, you can apply. The last date to submit the application is 1 June 2026. JMI Research Assistant and Field Investigator Recruitment 2026 - 4 Posts

Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi has released a local advertisement dated 22 May 2026 for temporary project positions under the ICSSR-funded project titled A Study on the Performance and Public Trust in Autonomous District Councils in Assam, Mizoram and Tripura: With a Focus on Advancing the Vision of Viksit Bharat@2047. The Research Assistant role is based at JMI, New Delhi, with field visits to remote places in Assam, Tripura and Mizoram. Field Investigator posts are state-linked, with one post each for Assam, Mizoram and Tripura.

These are temporary project posts. The Research Assistant engagement is for 10 months based on performance or project duration, whichever is earlier. Field Investigator engagement is for 3 months during July-September 2026. The selected Research Assistant has to join immediately, and the university will call only shortlisted applicants for interview.

The project work is field-heavy and is linked to public trust, performance and governance of Autonomous District Councils. For the Research Assistant post, the work includes review of literature, preparation of research tools, field-work supervision, data processing, analysis, documentation and report writing. For Field Investigators, the work focuses on field visits, data collection, documentation and meetings with key informants in the assigned project state.

Who Can Apply?

Research Assistant

  • Qualification: Postgraduate degree in any Social Science discipline with minimum 55% marks.
  • Preferred qualification: NET, M.Phil. or Ph.D. will be preferred.
  • Desirable exposure: Clear understanding of social, economic and political issues linked to North East states and Autonomous District Councils.
  • Research profile: Preference will be given to applicants with published papers on issues concerning North East states named in the notice.

Field Investigator

  • Qualification: Postgraduate degree in Social Science with minimum 55% marks.
  • Field familiarity: You should be familiar with social, economic and political issues concerning the project states and Autonomous District Councils.
  • Work location: One Field Investigator is required for each of Assam, Tripura and Mizoram.

Age Limit

  • Upper age limit: 35 years.
  • Age date: Age is counted as on the last day of application, which is 1 June 2026.

Salary

  • Research Assistant: Rs. 37,000 per month consolidated, or as per ICSSR guidelines.
  • Field Investigator: Rs. 20,000 per month consolidated, or as per ICSSR guidelines.
  • No TA/DA: The notification says no travel or daily allowance will be paid.

Minimum Qualification

Postgraduate degree in Social Science discipline with minimum 55% marks

Preferred Qualification

NET, M.Phil. or Ph.D. for Research Assistant; research publications or field familiarity with North East states and Autonomous District Councils preferred
