About This Job
NIOT is hiring 1 Junior Translation Officer on a regular basis under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India. National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) Junior Translation Officer Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post
National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Chennai, an autonomous body under the Earth System Sciences Council (ESSC) of the Ministry of Earth Sciences, has released Advertisement No. NIOT/E&P/01/2026 (Regular) for one Junior Translation Officer post on direct recruitment basis. The post is in the Unreserved (UR) category and the post code is JTO-01-2026. The selected officer will support official language work and translation between Hindi and English at NIOT, Chennai.
Who Can Apply?
Essential Qualification (any one of the following)
- Master's degree of a recognized University in Hindi with English as a compulsory or elective subject, or as the medium of examination at the degree level.
- Master's degree of a recognized University in English with Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject, or as the medium of examination at the degree level.
- Master's degree in any subject other than English or Hindi, with Hindi medium and English as a compulsory or elective subject, or as the medium of examination at the degree level.
- Master's degree in any subject other than Hindi or English, with English medium and Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject, or as the medium of examination at the degree level.
- Master's degree in any subject other than Hindi or English, with Hindi and English as compulsory or elective subjects, or either of the two as medium of examination and the other as a compulsory or elective subject at degree level.
Additional Requirement (any one)
- Recognized Diploma or Certificate course in translation from Hindi to English and vice versa, OR
- Two years of experience of translation work from Hindi to English and vice versa in Central or State Government offices, including a Government of India undertaking.
Age Limit
- Maximum age: 35 years (as on the closing date of online application, i.e. 15 June 2026)
- Upper age relaxation is available for Central Government servants, Ex-Servicemen, and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities as per Government of India rules.
- Since the post is Unreserved (UR), no age relaxation is available for SC/ST/OBC candidates.

- Pay Level: Level 6 (Rs. 35,400 - Rs. 1,12,400) as per the 7th Central Pay Commission
- Plus DA, HRA, TA and other allowances as admissible under Central Government rules
Selection Process
The selection will be done in two stages:
- Written Examination - Final merit list will be prepared based on marks obtained in the written exam only.
- Skill Test (qualifying): A practical test of qualifying nature. You must clear the minimum cut-off set by the selection committee.
Both the written exam and skill test will be held only at NIOT, Chennai on the same day or consecutive days. The indicative syllabus will be published on the NIOT website. You will need to arrange your own travel and stay. NIOT may shortlist candidates based on cut-off marks or years of experience if applications received are large in number.

- Carry a copy of the online application when you appear for the written exam and skill test.
The selected candidate is liable to work anywhere in India at any NIOT centre or project site. No TA/DA will be paid for attending the exam, except sleeper-class fare reimbursement for outstation SC/ST candidates.

Responsibilities
- Translate official documents from English to Hindi and from Hindi to English
- Translate publications like books, handbooks and brochures from Hindi to English and vice versa
- Proofread translations to ensure accuracy, clarity and grammatical correctness
- Assist in effective implementation of the Government's official language policy in the Institute
- Organize Hindi workshops, meetings and conferences to promote the language
- Maintain and update official glossaries and terminology databases
- Perform typing and data entry in Hindi or English, and use latest AI tools for translation as required
- Assist in other administrative tasks and provide general language support to technical groups
Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
Master's degree from a recognized University in Hindi with English (or vice versa, or any subject with both languages), plus a recognized Diploma/Certificate in translation OR 2 years of translation experience in Central/State Government offices
Preferred Qualification
Diploma or Certificate course in translation from Hindi to English and vice versa from a recognized institution
Required Skills
Hindi to English and English to Hindi translation, proofreading, typing in Hindi/English, knowledge of AI translation tools, official language implementation
