Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) Member (Irrigation) and Member (Power) Recruitment 2026

The Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) under the Ministry of Power, Government of India has released a vacancy circular for the posts of Whole Time Members — Member (Irrigation) and Member (Power). These posts manage complex inter-state issues between Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh related to the Bhakra Nangal and Beas Projects. There is no written exam — selection is based on your qualification, experience, and service record. Senior engineers with deep experience in irrigation systems or power plants and transmission lines should apply.

Both posts are filled by candidates from Central Government, State Governments, Central PSEs, State PSUs, and other autonomous bodies under the Ministry of Power.

Who Can Apply?

Member (Irrigation)

• Qualification: Engineering graduate in Civil or Mechanical Engineering from a recognised University or Institution.
• Experience (A): 20 years of regular experience with at least 1 year (as on closing date) as Chief Engineer or equivalent in Level-14 of the pay matrix (Rs. 1,44,200 - Rs. 2,18,200) or higher under Central Government, OR Chief Engineer or equivalent or higher post under State Government / State PSU, OR a post carrying pay scale of Rs. 1,50,000 - Rs. 3,00,000 (IDA) or equivalent or higher in Central PSU.
• Experience (B): At least 5 years of work experience during the last 10 years in planning, design, construction or operation and maintenance of a major irrigation system.
• Preference: Candidates with experience in the Department or Undertaking of the State Government of Haryana will be preferred.

Member (Power)

• Qualification: Engineering graduate in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from a recognised University or Institution.
• Experience (A): 20 years of regular experience with at least 1 year (as on closing date) as Chief Engineer or equivalent in Level-14 of the pay matrix (Rs. 1,44,200 - Rs. 2,18,200) or higher under Central Government, OR Chief Engineer or equivalent or higher post under State Government / State PSU, OR a post carrying pay scale of Rs. 1,50,000 - Rs. 3,00,000 (IDA) or equivalent or higher in Central PSU.
• Experience (B): At least 5 years of work experience during the last 10 years in planning, design, construction or operation and maintenance of power plants OR transmission lines (minimum voltage level 66 kV or above).
• Preference: Candidates with experience in the Department or Undertaking of the State Government of Punjab will be preferred.

Other Eligibility Conditions

• Your Annual Confidential Reports (ACRs) for the last 5 years must be up to date.
• No vigilance or disciplinary case should be pending or contemplated against you.

Age Limit

• You must not be more than 58 years of age as on the closing date of receipt of application.
• The whole-time Member shall not hold office beyond the age of 60 years.

Salary

• You will be paid in Level-15 of the pay matrix (Rs. 1,82,200 - Rs. 2,24,100 per month) as per the Central Civil Service (Revised Pay) Rules, 2016.
• You will also get travelling allowance and other allowances as admissible to the highest grade officers of the Government of Punjab or as admissible to CMD/Directors of other Central PSEs (Hydro Power), whichever is higher.
• If you are on deputation from a Central PSE, performance-related pay will not be admissible during your deputation.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Selection will be based on:

1. Screening of Applications: Eligible candidates will be screened based on qualification, experience, ACRs, vigilance clearance, and service record.
2. Recommendation by Appointments Committee: Names will be forwarded by the parent department through proper channel.
3. Final Selection: The competent authority will make the final selection from the recommended candidates.

• Manage planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of Bhakra Dam Complex, Beas Dam Talwara, Beas-Satluj Link Project, Nangal Dam and Nangal Hydel Channel (for Member Irrigation)
• Oversee power projects, transmission systems and system operation across Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh (for Member Power)
• Handle complex inter-state issues between partner states with mature judgement
• Lead engineering teams and approve major technical decisions for BBMB
• Coordinate with the Ministry of Power, Central Electricity Authority and Central Water Commission
• Prepare and present technical reports to the Board and Central Government
