OMC Director (Operations) Recruitment 2026: Overview

Odisha Mining Corporation Limited (OMC), which explores, mines and trades iron, chrome, bauxite, manganese and limestone ores, needs a Director (Operations) on its Board of Directors. The post sits at the corporate office in Bhubaneswar, and the selection is run by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) through the Steel & Mines Department, Government of Odisha. OMC is a Gold category company and describes itself as the largest State PSU in the mining sector in India, with a turnover of Rs. 25,270 crore in FY 2025-26.

This is the top operations job in the company: you would oversee every regional office and mine, plus sales and marketing. It is a Board-level contract post open to senior mining engineers from Central or State Government, CPSEs, State PSUs and listed private mining companies. A regular-mode mining degree and a First Class Mines Manager's Certificate are both must-haves.

OMC wants someone who knows the statutory and regulatory rules for production, quality control, sales and mine safety inside out, and who can lead with strategic thinking, negotiation and change leadership. The notice also expects you to understand digital mining — Industry 4.0 moving to 5.0, AI and automation, drone surveys — along with decarbonisation, renewable energy integration and mine closure planning.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: Full-time contract for five years or until you turn 60, whichever comes first. A further five-year term (again capped at age 60) may be given on good performance.
• Field experience: Within your overall experience, at least five years of field work, including underground mining, may count as an added advantage for deserving candidates.
• Seniority rule for government and PSU executives: You must have worked for at least three years at the level two positions below the Board. A Head of Department at that level who reports to a Functional Director or the MD can also apply.
• Private sector executives: Your current or last company must be listed on a stock exchange with a turnover of Rs. 1,000 crore or more, and you must be at Board level or within two levels of it.
• How the level is judged: In a PSU where CGM/Sr. GM is just below the Board, a GM counts as two levels below. In a private firm where Senior Vice President is just below the Board, a Vice President counts. You must attach an organisation chart showing your current position and grade.
• Pay and perks: HRA in lieu of housing, medical allowance and other perks match those of an E-8 rank officer (CGM) of OMC. Pay protection is allowed for candidates coming from government bodies and PSUs.
• Two-year debarment: If you are selected by PESB and then refuse the post after the interview or after the offer, you are barred for two years from any Board-level post in a State PSE other than your own. No relaxation is given.
• Medical fitness: The appointment depends on a medical fitness certificate from a State or Central Government medical officer or OMC's medical officer.
• Travel: Outstation candidates called for interview get economy-class air fare both ways on producing original documents.

Government and PSU employees must apply through proper channel — for example through the cadre controlling authority, the administrative ministry or their own PSU.
