BHEL Artisan Grade IV Recruitment 2026: Overview

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), the public sector engineering company set up in 1964, is hiring Artisan Grade IV tradespeople for the shop floors of nine manufacturing units in seven states. BHEL calls this drive Artisan Recruitment 2027 because it fills the plants' manpower needs for the coming year. It is open only to people who hold both an ITI trade certificate and a National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) in the same trade.

You join as a Temporary Artisan for one year on a fixed monthly wage, and you move into the regular Artisan Grade IV pay scale once you complete that year successfully. The units range from boiler, pressure-vessel and transformer plants to the Electronics and Solar divisions in Bengaluru, so pick the unit whose work matches your trade.

Posts and Disciplines

The openings are spread across seven ITI trades. You choose one trade and one unit when you apply.

• Fitter: the biggest trade in this drive, with openings in every one of the nine units.
• Welder: needed at every unit except HPEP Hyderabad, with the heaviest demand at the Tiruchirappalli boiler plant and the Visakhapatnam vessels plant.
• Turner: concentrated at HPEP Hyderabad; not offered at EDN Bengaluru, TP Jhansi or HPBP Tiruchirappalli.
• Machinist: offered at every unit except the Electronics Division in Bengaluru.
• Electrician: open at all nine units, with the largest share at the Electronics Division, Bengaluru.
• Electronics Mechanic: only at EDN Bengaluru and HPVP Visakhapatnam.
• Foundryman: a small trade, offered at HPVP Visakhapatnam, SBD Bengaluru, HEEP Haridwar and HEP Bhopal.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• 20-year unit lock: You must serve at the unit you are allotted for at least 20 years, and no transfer request is entertained in that period. If you later ask to move for personal reasons, BHEL will consider it only when a suitable post is free, and only by reverting you to your original post.
• One-year temporary period: Regularisation as Artisan Grade IV follows BHEL's company rules after you finish the temporary year.
• Compassionate quota: Part of the posts are kept for dependents of deceased BHEL employees; any left unfilled may go to open selection.
• Current BHEL temporary staff: If you are already engaged by BHEL as a temporary employee, or are not yet regularised or still on probation, you cannot apply.
• Regular courses only: Your ITI and NAC must be full-time regular courses, and the NAC must be issued by the concerned authority.
• Ex-servicemen: If you claim trade equivalency from an Army, Air Force or Naval institute, the minimum-marks rule does not apply, but you must show the equivalence certificate.
• Disability suitability: The post suits locomotor disability (both-leg cases only for Fitter and Electrician), leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid-attack survivors, low vision, deaf and hard of hearing, speech disability and multiple disabilities. It is not identified for blindness. A scribe is allowed if you bring the medical and physical-limitation certificates to the exam centre.
• Medical fitness: You must pass BHEL's own medical examination before joining; there is no relaxation in health standards.
• Tentative numbers: BHEL says the trade and unit counts are tentative and may change after further assessment.
• Government employees: Apply through proper channel or bring a no-objection certificate to document verification.
• Legal disputes: Cases can be filed only in the courts of the city where the unit is located.

Application Submission Notes

Apply only through the BHEL careers portal (careers.bhel.in); no other mode is accepted, even if you are registered with an employment exchange. If you submit more than once, only your last application counts. You can pick up to five exam-centre choices, though BHEL may add or drop cities.

Enter your name exactly as it appears on your Class 10 certificate, and keep your email ID active for at least a year — BHEL sends all updates by email, not by post. Your category, address and post cannot be changed after you submit. If you were a Best or Runner-Up Apprentice at the All India Skill Competition, upload your Certificate of Merit with the form.
