Malkangiri Forest Division Wildlife Veterinary Assistant Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Divisional Forest Officer-cum-Wildlife Warden, Malkangiri Forest Division in Odisha is hiring a Wildlife Veterinary Assistant on a purely contractual basis. The person selected will run the division's new Mobile Veterinary Unit (MVU), which the forest office is setting up because sickness and deaths among wild animals, human-wildlife conflict and pressure from people living near the forest have all been rising.

This is a field job, not a desk job. You will be the overall in-charge of the MVU, treating sick and injured wild animals where they are found, tracking disease, doing post-mortems and working with the Animal Husbandry Department and the local veterinary dispensaries. In an emergency, the unit can also be sent to neighbouring forest divisions.

A BVSc & AH or MVSc graduate can apply. The forest office gives preference to a master's degree holder with hands-on experience treating herbivores and carnivores or working in wildlife management.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Resident post: You must live in Malkangiri and be ready to move in and around forest areas.
• Contract term: The first engagement is for six months, extendable if your work is satisfactory and funds are available. It gives no right to a regular government appointment.
• Termination: The engagement can end at any time, without a reason being given, for unsatisfactory work or administrative needs.
• Pay through a service provider: The consolidated monthly salary is paid through a service provider, not directly by the forest office.
• Monthly work certificate: You submit a work done certificate every month; the ACF verifies it and the DFO passes it before your salary bill is processed.
• Reporting line: You work under the administrative control of the DFO, Malkangiri, and as the needs of Koraput Circle require, with regular supervision by the DFO and the ACF.
• Reserve panel: The final merit list stays valid for one year and is used as a reserve panel if the post falls vacant again.
• Schedule may change: The DFO can cancel, postpone or reschedule the written test, the interview or the whole process at any stage.

• Treat sick, injured and diseased wild animals on site and refer complicated cases to the district veterinary officer or OUAT's veterinary college
• Carry out chemical immobilisation, tranquilisation and sedation of wild animals under approved guidelines
• Conduct post-mortems on dead wild animals and send samples to referral laboratories
• Monitor wildlife health daily and respond quickly to disease outbreaks
• Support Anti-Depredation Squads in the rescue, rehabilitation and release of wild animals
• Run awareness drives on bio-security and vaccination for livestock owners in forest-fringe villages
• Keep date-wise records of field visits, samples sent, awareness programmes and the vehicle logbook
