The District Health and Family Welfare Samiti (DHFWS), Howrah, working under the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of West Bengal, is filling eleven groups of contractual posts across the district's urban health centres, block hospitals and TB units. The posts are funded by the National Health Mission (NUHM, NPHCE, NTEP), the XV Finance Commission Health Grant and the Haemoglobinopathy Control Programme (HCP).

The biggest share goes to nursing roles — Staff Nurses and female Community Health Assistants (Urban) for the UPHCs, urban Health and Wellness Centres and polyclinics in the district's municipal areas. Most posts are filled on marks alone, with no written exam, so your qualifying-course percentage matters a lot. Pharmacists, data and TB-programme staff face a short computer test as well.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Residence: You must be a permanent resident of West Bengal. For the Community Health Assistant (Urban) posts you must also be a permanent resident of Howrah district.
• Language: You need working proficiency in Bengali or the local language and dialect.
• Women only: Both Community Health Assistant (Urban) rows are open to female candidates only.
• Cut-off for qualifications: Every essential qualification and council registration must be complete by the first day of online application; registration must be with a West Bengal council, with the same name as on your application.
• Distance degrees: Degrees from a government-affiliated distance-learning course or open university are accepted.
• Existing NHM staff: You can apply for the same position again, but you join as a fresher — no continuity of service or other benefits carry over.
• Government employees: Apply through proper channel if your rules need it, and bring the original NOC at the interview.
• Reserved-category proof: Only digitized caste and PwD certificates issued by West Bengal authorities on or before the first day of application are accepted; OBC claims follow the state's notifications listed in the notice, subject to pending court cases.
• Panel: The selection panel stays valid for one year, and the notice says vacancy numbers may rise later and be filled from it.
• Ties: If two candidates score the same, the older candidate gets preference.
