IIT Hyderabad has released a notification for 1 Research Associate-I post under the research project titled "Nanoscale microstructure engineering of advanced high strength steels to mitigate hydrogen embrittlement." This is a temporary position for 11 months, starting as soon as possible, in the Department of Materials Science & Metallurgical Engineering. Candidates who have submitted their Ph.D. thesis but are still awaiting their final viva voce examination can also apply — you don't need to have your degree certificate in hand yet. The role involves hands-on lab work studying how hydrogen affects the strength and deformation behaviour of advanced steels, so it's best suited for candidates with a materials science research background.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: Ph.D. in Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field
• Also Eligible: Candidates who have submitted their Ph.D. thesis but are awaiting their final viva voce examination
• Desirable: Prior research experience in steels and/or hydrogen embrittlement, with hands-on experience in multiscale characterization techniques such as TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy) and EBSD (Electron Backscatter Diffraction)

Age Limit

• You should not be more than 35 years old as on the last day of application.
• Age Relaxation: Available for SC/ST/OBC candidates as per standard government norms.

Salary

• Selected candidates will get a salary of Rs. 58,000 per month, inclusive of HRA.

Selection Process

The selection will be done in the following stages:

1. Application Screening: Your Google Form entry and emailed documents (CV, research summary, research plan and publications) will be reviewed based on your academic record and relevant work experience.
2. Interview: Only shortlisted candidates will be notified by email about the online interview, expected by 15 September 2026.

Note: Meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee an interview call. The project's Principal Investigator reserves the right to keep the position vacant if no suitable candidate is found.
