SAIL Specialist and GDMO Recruitment 2026: Overview

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), through its Central Mining and Logistics Organisation (CMLO) at Rourkela Steel Plant, is hiring doctors as Consultants (Doctors in Medical Disciplines). The doctors will work at the company hospitals of three iron ore mines in the Odisha Group of Mines (OGoM): Bolani Ore Mines, Barsuan Iron Mines and Kalta Iron Mines.

This is a walk-in drive on a contract basis, not a regular SAIL appointment. Most of the openings are for General Duty Medical Officers, so a fresh MBBS doctor who has finished the internship has a real chance here. The drive is also open to retired doctors and ex-employees of SAIL and other PSUs, as long as they did not leave through voluntary retirement.

Posts and Disciplines

• Specialist (General Medicine): a physician's role for doctors with a PG degree or DNB in General Medicine, serving the mine hospitals as the senior medicine consultant.
• GDMO (General Duty Medical Officer): the frontline doctor's role at the mine hospitals, open to MBBS doctors who have completed their internship.

For both posts, your degree must come from an institute recognised by MCI, NMC or NBE, and you must be registered with MCI, NMC or a State Medical Council.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: The first contract runs for one year and can be extended by another year at the company's discretion. One contract cannot go beyond three years, though you can be engaged again afterwards.
• Working hours: The pay is fixed for 8 hours a day, six days a week. If you are engaged for fewer hours, the pay is reduced in proportion. You may be called for emergencies beyond your hours with no extra pay.
• Housing: At the mine locations, company quarters are rent-free if available, but you pay electricity and water charges. No HRA is paid.
• Medical cover: Medical benefits are for you and your spouse at the company hospital only, with no referrals. Ex-SAIL employees keep their existing retiree benefits.
• Private practice: Allowed, as long as it does not disturb your assigned working hours. You will not get a Non-Practising Allowance.
• No regular job rights: The engagement is purely temporary. There is no PF or gratuity, and it gives you no claim to a permanent post.
• Termination: Either side can end the contract with one month's notice. SAIL can also end it at once for poor performance, long-term medical unfitness, misconduct or loss of your licence to practise.
• Medical fitness: Your joining depends on passing the company's medical fitness check.
• Reservation: The Presidential Directive on reservation for SC and ST candidates applies.
• Travel: No TA/DA is paid for attending the walk-in interview.

Application Submission Notes

There is no online form. Report in person to the Office of HR–Talent Acquisition, Ground Floor, 'E' Block, Administration Building, Rourkela Steel Plant, Raurkela–769011 (Odisha) between 9:30 am and 11:30 am on the interview day.

Carry the filled application format (Annexure-A) from the notice with a recent passport-size colour photo. You also need the original certificates and a set of self-attested photocopies. If you cannot show the originals, you will not be allowed into the interview. If you work in a PSU, autonomous body or government department, bring an NOC from your employer.
