TNPSC Group IV Recruitment 2026: Overview

Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) is conducting the Combined Civil Services Examination IV for regular recruitment across state services, local bodies and public organizations. The notice brings ministerial, judicial, municipal, corporation and forest posts into the same recruitment. Your choice of post matters because the appointing organization and service conditions differ.

Posts and Disciplines

• Village Administrative Officer: A post in the Tamil Nadu Ministerial Service, alongside Junior Assistant and Bill Collector posts in that service.
• Junior Assistant and accounts posts: Openings span municipal bodies, the judicial service and state corporations, including power distribution, housing, small industries and handloom organizations.
• Revenue Assistant and Tax Collector: These belong to local-body services, including municipal councils and Greater Chennai Corporation.
• Junior Administrative Assistant: The Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Authority has both the regular post and a Computer Operator variant.
• Typing and shorthand posts: Typist, Steno Typist, Shorthand Typist, Personal Clerk and Junior Assistant cum Typist posts belong to different services. Match the post code to the organization when making your choice.
• Executive Officer and Junior Inspector: These posts come under the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments and Co-operative Subordinate Services respectively.
• Laboratory and telephone posts: The Forensic Science Subordinate Service has Laboratory Assistant and Telephone Operator posts. Arasu Rubber Corporation has a Senior Laboratory Assistant post.
• Other roles: Record Clerk belongs to the Industrial Investment Corporation, Sales Assistant to the Handicrafts Development Corporation, and the forest posts cover Forest Watcher and Forest Guard with Driving Licence.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Posting exceptions: Sales Assistants must be ready to work in New Delhi, Kolkata or anywhere in Tamil Nadu. Junior Assistants under post code 3788 may be posted anywhere in India, so you should not assume every appointment will remain within Tamil Nadu.
• Provisional vacancies: TNPSC can change the notified openings before counselling and may add posts with similar entry conditions. Department-wise and unit-wise distribution will be announced separately.
• Reservation: Reservation applies separately to each post, except shortfall vacancies. Some typing and shorthand rows include backlog openings, while the CMDA Steno Typist row is entirely backlog.
• Forest post options: Your online choice determines whether TNPSC considers you for forest posts as well as the other posts. Check that choice carefully before final submission.
• Appointment status: Admission to the recruitment or inclusion in a selection list does not guarantee appointment. Selection remains subject to the relevant pending court cases and the accuracy of your claims.
• Recruitment updates: Check the commission website for results and counselling notices. SMS and email are extra alerts, so missed messages do not remove your responsibility to follow the published updates.

Application Submission Notes

One Time Registration (OTR) is a prerequisite on the TNPSC examination portal, but registration alone does not apply for this examination. Your Aadhaar must be linked to OTR, and the examination needs its own online application.

Your final form should reflect the claims you intend TNPSC to assess. Changes to your OTR profile do not automatically update an examination application you have already submitted.
