VOCPA Trainee Pilot Recruitment 2026: Overview
V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOCPA), under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, is engaging Trainee Pilots for its Marine Department in Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu. This is a contractual engagement with a training and licensing phase before licensed pilotage work. The notice links progression to the pilotage licence and tonnage authorisation you obtain.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Engagement period: The notice specifies a three-year engagement and requires service for two years after successful completion of training and licensing. Keep both parts of this commitment in mind when considering the appointment.
- Continued employment: Completing the contract does not give you a right to further employment with the port authority. The authority makes no commitment to offer employment during or after the contractual engagement.
- Travel and joining expenses: You must meet your own travel, boarding and lodging costs for participation and joining. The port does not reimburse these expenses under this notice.
- Provisional candidature: Incorrect information, false certificates or concealed facts can lead to cancellation. If a problem comes to light after engagement, the authority can terminate the appointment.
- Authority's discretion: The port may change the number of positions, restrict the shortlist, reject applications or cancel the recruitment in part or in full. Its decision on recruitment matters is final.

Master (Foreign Going) Certificate of Competency (COC). An Indian citizen holding a foreign COC recognised by India must obtain the relevant endorsement from the Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India.

You must be an Indian national with a Master (FG) Certificate of Competency and at least one year of post-COC sailing experience as Chief Officer or above on a foreign-going ship. A recognised foreign COC needs the relevant DG Shipping endorsement.
You may email your application to dc@vocport.gov.in and attend the walk-in at the Deputy Conservator's office, Harbour Estate, Tuticorin. Bring the completed Annexure 1 form, photograph, originals and self-attested copies, after confirming the schedule.
You receive Rs. 1,00,000 per month during six-month training. Pay rises to Rs. 1,70,000 after licensing for ships up to 20,000 GT and to Rs. 2,50,000 for full/unrestricted tonnage.
You must be 55 years or younger when entering pilotage service. The notice separately sets an upper service age of 65 years, subject to the port's medical examination.
