UCSL ITI Trade Apprentice Recruitment 2026: Overview

Udupi Cochin Shipyard Limited (UCSL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, is taking in ITI Trade Apprentices in the Electrician and Plumber trades at its shipyard in Malpe, Udupi district, Karnataka. This is a one-year apprenticeship under the Apprentices Act, 1961, not a regular job, so you learn on live shipbuilding and ship repair work while getting a monthly stipend and a meals allowance.

The big point of this notice is that only candidates with a Karnataka domicile will be considered. There is no written test: UCSL ranks applicants by the marks in their ITI qualification. If you recently finished ITI in one of these two trades and live in Karnataka, this is a good way to get shipyard experience on your CV.

Posts and Disciplines

• Electrician: for ITI holders with the National Trade Certificate (NTC) in the Electrician trade, working with the shipyard's electrical teams at Malpe.
• Plumber: for ITI holders with the NTC in the Plumber trade, working on piping and water systems in the yard and on vessels.

Post-wise Duties

Electrician Apprentice

You will learn wiring, cable laying and fault finding on ships and in yard workshops, working alongside skilled electricians and following electrical safety rules on board.

Plumber Apprentice

You will help fit, join and test pipelines and plumbing systems on vessels and in shipyard buildings, and learn to read piping layouts under a supervisor.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Domicile: only Karnataka domicile candidates will be considered.
• Previous apprenticeship: if you have already done apprenticeship training in any organisation under the Apprentices Act, 1961, for any length of time, you cannot apply.
• Tie-break rule: when two candidates have the same percentage, the older candidate gets the higher rank.
• Contract: selected candidates sign the apprenticeship contract on the apprenticeshipindia.gov.in portal.
• No job guarantee: UCSL has no obligation to employ you after the training ends.
• No travel or boarding help: UCSL does not pay travel costs for certificate verification and does not give lodging during training.
• Rank list: the list stays valid for 6 months from the date the last candidate reports, and seats that open up later are filled from it.
• Marks entry: if the marks you enter differ from your mark sheet, your application is rejected.
• Legal disputes: any case about this notice can be filed only in courts at Udupi.

Application Submission Notes

This drive uses email applications, not an online portal. Download the Annexure I application form from the UCSL careers page, fill it in, paste a recent passport size photo and sign it. Then email the scanned form with scans of your age, qualification, caste and other certificates to career@udupicsl.com. Applications sent without the signed form or the supporting certificates are rejected.

UCSL replies by email with a unique registration number. Keep a soft copy or printout of it, because you need it at certificate verification. Shortlisted candidates are told by email and on udupicsl.com, not by post. For questions, call 0820 2538604.
