The Office of Research and Consultancy at NIT Calicut has released a notification for 1 Junior Research Fellow post to work on a sponsored project titled "Development of an ultrasonic cavitation-enhanced EDM method for post-processing of laser powder bed fusion parts: A novel approach", based in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Selection is done purely through a hybrid-mode interview — there is no written exam for this position. This is a strong opportunity for Mechanical or Production Engineering postgraduates who want hands-on exposure to advanced manufacturing research at one of India's premier National Institutes of Technology.

The project focuses on laser powder bed fusion (an additive manufacturing technique) combined with ultrasonic cavitation-enhanced EDM post-processing — a field with growing demand in the aerospace, automotive and medical device industries. Working here gives you research exposure that can help if you plan to pursue a PhD or a career in advanced manufacturing later. The engagement is initially for 1 year from your date of joining and may be extended further based on your performance and the availability of project funds, so it can also turn into a longer research assignment if things go well.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Production Engineering with an aggregate of 60% marks (average of all semesters), or a CGPA/CPI of 6.5 on a 10-point scale (or equivalent).
• Mandatory Score: You must also hold a valid GATE or NET score.
• Desirable: Experience in designing and monitoring experimental setups or numerical modelling will be an added advantage.

Age Limit

• The age limit is 28 years as on 30 July 2026 (this criterion is marked optional/relaxable in the notification).
• Age Relaxation: Available as per Government of India (GOI) rules for candidates from reserved categories.

Salary

• You will get a consolidated monthly pay of Rs. 37,000 plus 20% House Rent Allowance (HRA).
• The engagement is initially for 1 year and can be extended based on your performance and fund availability.
• No TA/DA will be paid for the application process or for attending the interview.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

NIT Calicut is filling this post through a single stage:

1. Hybrid-Mode Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed on 3 August 2026, either in person or online.
