NIC Technical Assistant Recruitment 2026: Overview

National Informatics Centre (NIC), under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, is recruiting Scientific/Technical Assistant-A staff on a direct-recruitment basis. The post supports NIC's work on government digital services, ICT infrastructure, consultancy, research and capacity building across ministries and field offices. This is a Group B scientific and technical role, and the recruitment uses recent GATE performance instead of running a separate written test.

Posts and Disciplines

• Computer Science and Information Technology: the largest stream, aligned with NIC's e-governance applications, software systems, information technology and secure networking work.
• Electronics and Communication Engineering: suited to candidates whose academic and GATE background covers electronics, communication or telecommunications alongside the notified computing fields.
• Data Science and Artificial Intelligence: intended for candidates applying through the DA GATE paper and interested in data-led public administration and digital-government systems.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• GATE route: you must use a valid score from one of the notified GATE years and the paper code linked to your chosen discipline. Scores from the eligible years receive equal weight.
• Multiple disciplines: you may apply for more than one stream when you meet each stream's conditions, but each discipline is treated as a separate choice under the fee rule.
• Merit ties: NIC first ranks the older eligible GATE year higher. If the tie remains, the older candidate ranks higher, followed by the higher percentage in the essential qualification.
• Posting liability: the post can carry a posting anywhere in India or outside India in the organisation's interest. Requests for a preferred location may not be accepted.
• Reservation: the advertised distribution includes vertical and horizontal reservation. The notified total is tentative and may increase or decrease at NIC's discretion.
• Identity checks: Aadhaar-based authentication is used during the recruitment process. Your name, category and personal details should match the uploaded records.
• Document verification: original papers are checked before a provisional appointment is offered. NIC may hold this check in Delhi or another approved place or mode, and no TA/DA is paid for attending it.
• Government employees: applicants already working with government, PSUs, autonomous bodies or aided institutions need an NOC confirming that no disciplinary or vigilance matter is pending or planned.

The form is accepted only through the NIC recruitment portal. Your submission must produce a confirmation page after any applicable payment and required uploads are accepted; a partially finished form is treated as incomplete.
