MoE NIT Director Recruitment 2026: Overview
The Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, through its Department of Higher Education, is recruiting Directors for National Institutes of Technology (NITs) against upcoming vacancies. Each Director serves as both the academic and administrative head of the institute concerned. These centrally funded, autonomous technical institutes have Institution of National Importance status, and their leadership appointments follow the National Institutes of Technology, Science Education and Research (NITSER) Act and the statutes made under it.

Service Conditions and Caveats

- Academic and administrative remit: The notice places both sides of institute leadership within the Director's role. It seeks a person able to bring teaching and research credentials together with administrative capability and a clear institutional vision.

Ph.D with first-class Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Engineering/Technology. For a Ph.D obtained directly after B.E./B.Tech, first class at Bachelor's level in Engineering/Technology is required.

You can apply online until 20 October 2026 at 12:00 midnight. The separately permitted deadline for uploading the duly verified employer NOC is 5 November 2026.
You need a Ph.D and the specified first-class Engineering/Technology degrees, plus at least 15 years of experience, including 7 years at Professor level or above. A direct Ph.D after B.E./B.Tech follows the Bachelor's-degree route stated in the notice.
Apply online using the form on the NIT Council portal named in the notice. Upload the required degrees within the application window and the employer-verified NOC within its separate deadline; you cannot edit or resubmit the form after submission.
The post pays Rs. 2,10,000 per month, with a special allowance of Rs. 11,250 and other usual allowances.
The notice prefers applicants who are not more than 65 years old on 20 October 2026. It describes this as a preference, so it should not be read as an unconditional upper-age bar.
