MPSC has released Advertisement No. 17 of 2026-2027 dated 22 July 2026 for direct recruitment to 2 posts of Legal Officer (Jr. Grade of Mizoram Legal Service) under the Law and Judicial Department, Government of Mizoram. As a Legal Officer, you will examine and vet court cases, MoUs, and legal documents, review legislative and regulatory drafts, and advise government departments on legal matters. This is a Group 'A' Gazetted entry-level legal post, well-suited for practicing advocates looking to move into government service.

Who Can Apply?

MPSC has laid out clear conditions of eligibility for this post — read them carefully before you start your application, since incomplete or incorrect claims can lead to rejection at any stage of the recruitment process.

• Qualification: Bachelor's Degree in Law (LLB) from a university recognized by the Bar Council of India.
• Experience: You must be actively practicing as an Advocate in Civil and Criminal courts for at least 3 years as on the last date of application, supported by a certificate of active practice from the Mizoram Bar Association (or the concerned state bar association if you practice outside Mizoram). The maximum gap allowed while switching between Bar Associations is 6 months.
• Computer Proficiency: You must meet the computer proficiency standard prescribed under the Mizoram Group 'A', 'B' and 'C' posts Service/Recruitment (Amendment) Rules, 2023.
• Mizo Language: You must pass the Mizo Language Proficiency qualifying test, unless you studied Mizo as a subject up to Class X (HSLC) or opted for Mizo as MIL outside Mizoram — in which case you are exempted.

Age Limit

• You should be between 21 and 35 years old as on 1 August 2026.
• Age Relaxation: ST/SC candidates get up to 5 years relaxation in the upper age limit, or as notified by the Government from time to time.
• Aadhaar Card is not accepted as proof of date of birth — use your HSLC/HSSLC certificate, Voter ID, or a digitized birth certificate instead.

Salary

• This post carries Level 10 of the Pay Matrix, applicable to Group 'A' Gazetted officers of the Mizoram Government.
• You will also get allowances as applicable to Group 'A' officers under Mizoram Government rules.

Application Fee

• Persons with Disabilities (PwD): Exempted from the application fee.
• Other candidates must pay the applicable fee online — if paying by UPI, you must use only the mobile number registered during One Time Registration (OTR).
• Fees once paid are non-refundable under any circumstances.

Selection Process

The selection will be done in these stages:

1. Direct Recruitment Examination: A written examination conducted by MPSC. The detailed syllabus is available for download on the Commission's official website.
2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates appear for a personal interview.
3. Document Verification: You must upload/produce all your educational, practice, and category certificates.

Candidates found guilty of canvassing, providing incorrect information, or violating the MPSC Conduct of Examinations Guidelines, 2023 may be debarred from future MPSC examinations, and this record is also shared with UPSC and other State Public Service Commissions.

How to Apply

All supporting documents must be uploaded to the online portal before the closing date — failing to upload even one mandatory document will result in rejection of your application. Your candidature will be assessed only on the basis of documents uploaded in the portal, so double-check everything before you submit. If you need to correct a document after uploading, do it well before the deadline, since changes made after the closing date will not be considered for this post.

1. Register on the MPSC One Time Registration (OTR) portal at mpsconline.mizoram.gov.in if you haven't already.
2. Log in and fill in the online application form for the Legal Officer post.
3. Upload all mandatory documents — HSLC & above marksheets and certificates, LLB marksheet and certificate, computer proficiency proof, Mizo language proficiency proof, SC/ST certificate (if applicable), and date of birth proof.
4. Pay the application fee online, if applicable, using your OTR-registered mobile number for UPI payments.
5. Submit the form and verify that your application shows as successfully submitted after payment — unverified claims will not be entertained.
