Kerala Public Service Commission (Kerala PSC) is recruiting a Police Constable for the Band Unit through a First NCA selection for the OBC community. The post combines police discipline with practical ability on band, bugle, drum or related instruments. This is a uniformed service role, not only a musician's appointment, because the selected person must complete police training before entering the regular cadre.

The Band Unit supports police ceremonies, parades and official events across Kerala. You will need to perform as part of a disciplined group, care for service instruments and adapt to the routines of the police organisation. Practical musical proficiency is checked before appointment, while later service depends on successful completion of the prescribed training.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Community restriction: This First NCA selection is limited to Other Backward Class candidates. Applications from other communities will be rejected without an individual rejection memo.
• Candidate restrictions: The notification states that female candidates and differently abled candidates cannot apply for this particular Police Band Unit selection.
• Trainee status: Direct recruits enter as trainee Police Constables and undergo nine months of pre-service training at the Police Training College, Kerala Police Academy or another institution chosen by the Government or State Police Chief.
• Regular cadre: Appointment to the regular cadre follows successful training. A trainee delayed by an injury during training can receive further opportunities with later batches under the conditions stated in the rules; continued inability to qualify can cancel the appointment.
• Training pay: During training, you receive a stipend equal to the minimum basic pay of the post. The training period is treated as duty after successful completion is declared.
• Service bond: You must execute the prescribed security bond agreeing to serve the State Government after training.
• Posting liability: You can be required to serve anywhere in Kerala, regardless of battalion headquarters, and may also be ordered to serve elsewhere in India.
• Weightage claims: Valid NCC, meritorious-sports and Student Police Cadet certificates can carry weightage under the applicable government orders when properly claimed.

Apply through your Kerala PSC One Time Registration profile and select Apply Now for the correct category. A new profile needs a recent photograph with your name and the date of the photograph printed at the bottom; Aadhaar holders should add Aadhaar as identity proof.

Review the profile carefully before the final click because a submitted application cannot be deleted or altered. Keep a printout or soft copy and quote your User-ID in every later communication with the Commission.

Your education, band experience, community and any weightage or relaxation claims must match the supporting records. Kerala PSC can call for original proof at any stage, and profile corrections made after the cut-off do not change the application already submitted.
