IITG Project Engineer Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG) is filling Project Engineer and Assistant Project Engineer posts in its Department of Chemical Engineering, under Advertisement No. IITG/II&SI/Project Staff Rectt-2026/153. Both roles belong to a research project titled "Design and Development of NDIR-Based Gas Sensors for Hydrocarbon (HC) and Carbon Dioxide (CO₂) Detection", run under Project No. 2627C-0241-CLEG1018PASA. These are short contractual project positions, not regular institute posts.

NDIR stands for non-dispersive infrared — a sensing method that detects gases such as CO₂ and hydrocarbons by how they absorb infrared light. If you have worked on sensors, instrumentation or gas detection, this project gives you hands-on work at one of India's top technical institutes. The Principal Investigator is Partho Sarathi of the Chemical Engineering department.

Posts and Disciplines

• Project Engineer: the senior role on the project, open to M.E/M.Tech holders in any engineering discipline or Ph.D. holders in sensor development and characterisation or a related area. If you submitted your Ph.D. thesis within the past year, you can also apply.
• Assistant Project Engineer: the entry-level role, open to B.E/B.Tech graduates in engineering or a related discipline.

Post-wise Duties

Project Engineer

You will drive the design, development and characterisation of the NDIR gas sensors, using your research background in sensors. Prior sensor-related research experience is a plus.

Assistant Project Engineer

You will support the sensor work on the bench — building, testing and recording results for the hydrocarbon and CO₂ sensor prototypes. Experience with sensor projects or research helps.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: Both appointments are for a short fixed term under the project.
• HRA and medical: The posts come with medical facility, but no HRA is paid.
• No TA/DA: You will not be paid any travel or daily allowance for attending the test or interview.
• Interview mode: The interview is held online, so you do not need to travel to Guwahati for it.
