IIEST Shibpur Librarian Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur in Howrah, West Bengal is filling its Librarian post through direct recruitment under Advt. No. RO/SE/26/32. IIEST is an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Education, and the Librarian is a Group A officer-cadre post that heads the whole institute library.

The eligibility and experience rules come from the 2019 Recruitment Rules for non-teaching staff of NITs and IIEST Shibpur, notified by the Ministry of Education. This is a senior role meant for experienced library professionals — typically someone already working as a Deputy Librarian in a technical university or a large technical library, or someone holding an equivalent post. A proven record of library computerisation and innovative library services is part of the essential experience, and a PhD in Library or Information Science is a plus.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Method of filling: The rules call for 100% direct recruitment. If no suitable direct recruit is found, the post may be filled on deputation or short-term contract for up to 5 years or until the officer turns 62, whichever comes first.
• Probation: Direct recruits serve one year of probation as per the NIT Statutes.
• Deputation pay: If filled on deputation, pay and terms follow DoPT OM No. 6/8/2009-Estt.(Pay-II) dated 17 June 2010 and later government orders.
• Counting date: Age, qualification and experience are all counted on the last date of the online application.
• Unreserved post: The single seat is unreserved (UR); relaxations, if any, follow Central Government rules and need valid certificates.
• Category certificates: OBC (NCL) and EWS certificates must be issued on or after 1 April 2026, or you are treated as unreserved. PwD candidates need a certificate showing at least 40% disability.
• Vigilance clearance: Government, PSU and autonomous-body employees must submit an updated Vigilance Clearance Certificate at physical document verification before the interview.
• Shortlisting: Meeting the rules does not guarantee a call. IIEST may limit the number called for the screening test, presentation or interview.
• Fitness: You should be physically fit and mentally sound.
• No travel allowance: No TA/DA is paid for the screening test or interview.
• Jurisdiction: Legal disputes can be filed only in the High Court at Kolkata.

Application Submission Notes

You apply only through the institute's Google Form. First download the prescribed application form from the IIEST website, fill it in fully, and pay the fee by bank transfer to IIEST's UCO Bank, BESU Branch account (IFSC UCBA0002369). Then scan the form, the fee receipt, attested copies of your degrees, age proof, experience proof and a photo ID into a single PDF and upload it in the Google Form. The details you type in the Google Form must match the uploaded form exactly, or the application is rejected.

If you work in government, a PSU or an autonomous body, also send a hard copy through proper channel to The Registrar, IIEST Shibpur, P.O. Botanic Garden, Howrah 711103, writing "Application for the Post of Librarian" on the envelope, and bring a No Objection Certificate to the interview.
