ECoR Multi-Post GDCE Recruitment 2026: Overview

East Coast Railway (ECoR), through its Railway Recruitment Cell in Bhubaneswar, is running a General Departmental Competitive Examination for safety and non-safety roles across the zone. This is an internal opportunity for regular ECoR employees, including eligible staff linked to the erstwhile Waltair Division, to move into higher or different cadres. One application can cover several suitable post preferences, so your choice order should reflect both your qualification and the medical standard you can meet.

The drive combines operating, engineering, technical and clerical work under one notice. Most openings are for Assistant Loco Pilot and Goods Trains Manager, while smaller groups cover station operations, civil engineering, workshop trades and customer-facing clerical work. Your preference becomes final after submission, and the railway may adjust the notified positions according to administrative need.

Posts and Disciplines

• Assistant Loco Pilot: electrical traction work across Sambalpur, Waltair and Khurda Road units, with the strict A-1 medical standard.
• Station Master: operating posts in Sambalpur and Waltair, requiring safe train regulation and an A-2 medical standard.
• Goods Trains Manager: freight-operation duties across Khurda Road, Waltair and Sambalpur divisions.
• Junior Engineer: civil roles covering track machines, permanent way, works, bridges, design drawing and estimation.
• Technician Grade III: telecom, electrical, track-machine, fitter, welder, bridge, blacksmith and driller trades in divisional and workshop units.
• Junior Clerk cum Typist: computer-based clerical work for ECoR offices, with a qualifying typing requirement.
• Commercial Clerk cum Ticket Collector: passenger-facing commercial and ticketing work in Sambalpur Division.

Post-wise Duties

Operating Roles

As an Assistant Loco Pilot, you will support safe locomotive operation, observe signals and help with basic fault response. Station Masters and Goods Trains Managers coordinate train movement, operating records and communication between control, station and yard teams.

Engineering and Technical Roles

Junior Engineers supervise track, bridge, works and estimation activities, while Technician Grade III staff inspect, repair and service the equipment linked to their notified trade. Your exact work depends on the discipline and unit allotted after selection.

Clerical and Commercial Roles

Junior Clerks maintain office records, correspondence and computer entries. Commercial Clerks cum Ticket Collectors support ticketing, passenger service, cash records and other commercial functions at the assigned station or office.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Internal eligibility: You must be a regular employee or lien holder of East Coast Railway; RPF and RPSF staff are excluded from this GDCE.
• Grade condition: Staff in a lower grade can seek suitable posts, while same-grade movement is limited to the safety-category combinations allowed in the notice.
• Medical fitness: Each post carries its own railway medical standard. Failure to meet that standard can make you unsuitable even after clearing earlier stages.
• Posting: Selection can lead to placement in any notified ECoR division or unit, including the erstwhile Waltair Division, according to operational need.
• Training: Selected staff must complete any prescribed training before taking up full duties.
• Merit and attendance: The railway will not hold a supplementary test for an absent candidate, and normalized scores may be used for multi-session tests.
