DDP Technical Staff Officer (General) Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Department of Defence Production (DDP), Ministry of Defence has one opening for a Technical Staff Officer (General) in its Directorate of Planning and Coordination in New Delhi. The post is filled by transfer on deputation, so it is meant for serving officers, not fresh candidates. You would sit at the heart of the capital acquisition process, studying proposals from the Service Headquarters and helping the department shape its advice on them. Officers from the All India Services, Central Civil Services and IOFS, and serving Army, Navy and Air Force officers, can apply through their administrative authorities.

The role suits someone who already knows the Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP) and the Make in India push in the defence sector. You would process proposals headed for the Categorisation Committees, Defence Production Board and Defence Acquisition Council, handle policy and parliamentary matters, and represent DDP in feasibility studies for 'Make' projects that aim to build weapons and equipment in India.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Deputation tenure: Normally up to four years, extendable in public interest, but never beyond seven years in total. Any deputation in another ex-cadre post held just before this one counts towards the limit.
• Residual service: You must have at least five years of service left from the date the vacancy circular was issued.
• Pay for service officers: Army, Navy and Air Force officers keep drawing their pay and allowances from their respective CDAs; other officers' pay follows existing deputation orders.
• Rank for service officers: You must hold the substantive rank of Major, Lieutenant Commander or Squadron Leader.
• No withdrawal: Once you apply, you cannot withdraw your candidature, and an undertaking to that effect must go with the application.
• Clean record: Your administrative authority must certify that your particulars are correct and that no disciplinary or vigilance case is pending or contemplated against you.
• Release for full tenure: Only officers who can be spared for the full deputation tenure should be forwarded.
