AIIMS GKP Senior Resident Recruitment 2026: Overview

All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Gorakhpur is recruiting Senior Residents across major clinical departments under the Government of India Residency Scheme. The institute works under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and was established through the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana to strengthen tertiary care and medical education in eastern Uttar Pradesh. This residency combines supervised specialist practice with teaching-hospital responsibilities, making it relevant if you have completed postgraduate medical training and want broad clinical exposure at a central institute.

Posts and Disciplines

• Anaesthesiology: perioperative assessment, anaesthesia support, airway care and critical monitoring across operation theatres.
• ENT: inpatient, outpatient and procedural work involving ear, nose and throat conditions.
• General Medicine: ward care, outpatient evaluation and medical-emergency support for adult patients.
• General Surgery: surgical assessment, operating-theatre assistance and postoperative patient management.
• Obstetrics and Gynaecology: maternity, reproductive-health, ward and emergency services within the women's health team.
• Ophthalmology: eye-clinic assessment, procedure support and follow-up care for ophthalmic patients.
• Orthopaedics: trauma, musculoskeletal assessment, ward rounds and assistance with orthopaedic procedures.

• Pulmonary Medicine: respiratory assessment, inpatient care and support for diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: appointment starts for one year and may continue up to three years, depending on your performance and conduct.
• Whole-time service: you cannot take another paid or unpaid assignment or run a private practice during the residency.
• Termination: either side may end the appointment with one month's notice or salary in place of notice, subject to the institute's stated conditions.
• Credential check: the offer remains provisional until the competent authority confirms your educational and personal records.
• Reservation records: OBC applicants need a valid non-creamy-layer certificate for the current recruitment year and Central Government employment; EWS applicants need the prescribed income and asset certificate.
• Seat changes: the department-wise requirement is provisional, and the institute may revise it under Government of India rules or service needs.
• Conduct: canvassing can disqualify you, and selected residents must follow the institute's staff conduct and discipline rules.
