WCD Puducherry Chairperson and Member Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Department of Women and Child Development (WCD), Government of Puducherry is seeking Chairpersons and Members for Dowry Advisory Boards in Pondicherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam. These boards support the work of Dowry Prohibition Officers under the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961. Posts and Disciplines

• Chairperson: Leads the board's meetings and participates in its advisory work. The Government may appoint a board member as Chairperson.
• Member: Contributes to the board's advice and practical assistance for the local Dowry Prohibition Officer and Superintendent of Police.

Post-wise Duties

Chairperson

You will preside over Advisory Board meetings and contribute to advice on implementing the Act. If the Chairperson is absent, the members decide which member will preside.

Member

You will offer constructive suggestions and active assistance to support implementation of the Act. The board's remit includes advising both the Dowry Prohibition Officer and the Superintendent of Police on matters connected with the Act.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Term of office: The Chairperson and Members normally serve for five years, unless the Government decides otherwise.
• Board composition: At least two board members must be women. The notice also provides for considering a person with legal experience among the members.
• Meetings: The board must meet at least once every three months. It may meet earlier when needed, and three members form the quorum.
• Resignation: If you resign, you must continue in office until the Government accepts your resignation.
• Removal: The Government may remove a Chairperson or Member for acting against the purposes of the Act or its rules.
• Casual vacancies: The Government fills places that become vacant through death, resignation or removal under the rules reproduced in the notification.
