NISE Senior Project Scientist Recruitment 2026: Overview

National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) is hiring Senior Project Scientists for its Grid India-funded project, Hybrid Day-Ahead and Intra-Day Solar Weather Forecasting for Large Parks in India. Based in Gurugram, the project brings together weather prediction, satellite information, ground measurements and sky images to improve forecasts for large solar parks. These are short-term contractual engagements supporting research with renewable energy developers.

• Short-Term Solar Forecasting and Image Analytics Specialist: This role focuses on fast-changing solar conditions, cloud movement and image-based forecasting within the wider hybrid forecasting framework.
• Probabilistic Forecasting and DSM Analytics Specialist: This role focuses on forecast uncertainty, scheduling performance and the operational effects of forecast errors for utilities and system operators.

Post-wise Duties

Short-Term Solar Forecasting and Image Analytics Specialist

You will build short-term and intra-hour forecasts using images, satellite inputs and ground observations. The work includes detecting clouds, estimating their movement and studying rapid changes in irradiance. You will also connect image-derived features to the project's hybrid models and help validate nowcasting methods.

Probabilistic Forecasting and DSM Analytics Specialist

You will develop probabilistic forecasts and uncertainty models, check their reliability and analyse operational datasets. The role includes studying scheduling performance, simulating reductions in deviation penalties and assessing benefits for utilities across different weather and geographic conditions. Both roles contribute to technical reports, research papers, training and stakeholder discussions.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Contract period: The initial engagement lasts one year. Extensions depend on performance and institutional needs, up to a total of 30 months or project completion, whichever comes first.
• Employment status: The contract gives you no claim to a regular NISE appointment. The notice also allows withdrawal of the temporary engagement.
• Work arrangements: Your base is NISE, Gurugram, with occasional travel to solar parks, project sites and collaborating institutions. Working hours are 9.00 AM to 5.30 PM, including a half-hour lunch break. Weekend or holiday work may be needed.
• Other assignments: You cannot take another assignment during this full-time engagement.
• Leave: Regular leave is not available. Casual leave accrues at 1.5 days per calendar month on a proportionate basis.
• Research records: NISE retains intellectual property rights over project data and outputs. Written permission is needed before sharing or publishing project information, and you must hand over records before the contract ends.
• Ending the contract: The termination clause provides for 15 days of notice from either side. Your notice period may change according to workload.
• Travel costs: NISE will not reimburse travel or daily expenses for attending the interview or joining.
