KU JRF Physics Recruitment 2026: Overview

Kannur University (KU) is recruiting a Junior Research Fellow in Physics for an Anusandhan National Research Foundation project in the Department of Physics at its Swami Anandatheertha Campus, Payannur. The project, Quantum Tunneling Devices for Polaritonics: Excitation and Detection with a Single Platform, is supported through the Prime Minister Early Career Research Grant scheme.

The research combines theory, device fabrication, and optical-electrical measurements. It explores how quantum tunnel junctions can excite and detect polaritons on a compact device platform, with the wider aim of integrating sources, waveguides, and detectors for on-chip light-matter studies. This makes the role a good fit if you want hands-on research that connects quantum mechanics, solid-state physics, optics, and nanoscale devices.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Project tenure: The fellowship begins with a one-year term. It may continue after an annual performance review, up to the project's permitted duration or until the project ends, whichever happens first.
  • Research registration: The selected fellow may be allowed to register for a PhD at Kannur University. This is subject to the university's separate PhD eligibility rules and admission requirements.
  • Mixed research work: You should be comfortable moving between analytical or computational studies and experimental laboratory work rather than expecting a purely theoretical assignment.
  • Research outputs: The project includes scientific papers, reports, possible patent work, and conference communication, so clear technical writing is an important part of the engagement.
  • Shortlisting: The university will contact only applicants it considers qualified and suitable for interview. Academic record, research fit, and performance during the interview all matter.
  • Performance review: Continuation is not automatic; extension depends on satisfactory work and the continuing life of the funded project.

Application Submission Notes

Email one combined PDF to vijith.k@kannuruniv.ac.in with the subject Application for JRF position – ANRF (PM-ECRG) project. The file should bring together your cover letter, CV, academic proofs from Class 10 onward, relevant test proof, experience or research evidence, and referee details in the order requested by the notice.

Your application should make the connection between your background and the quantum-tunnelling and polaritonics project easy to see. If you have used Python, MATLAB, FEM, FDTD, optical characterisation, electronic-device fabrication, or related methods, point to the exact coursework, project, publication, or laboratory work that demonstrates it. Incomplete or late email applications are not considered, so check that the attachment opens correctly and that the subject line matches the notice before you send it.

Responsibilities

  • Study quantum tunnelling and polariton dispersion using theoretical methods
  • Prepare stable quantum tunnel junctions with suitable materials
  • Run electrical and optical characterisation of fabricated junctions
  • Build and test computational models relevant to the device design
  • Record experimental methods, observations, and results accurately
  • Prepare project reports, research papers, patent material, and conference outputs
  • Coordinate research tasks with the principal investigator and laboratory team
