IIT ISM Dhanbad Research Assistant Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Office of the Dean, Research and Development at the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad is taking in a Research Assistant for a sponsored Ministry of Mines R&D project numbered SRDP 1275I, titled "Design and development of advanced anti-collision system for heavy vehicles in Mining sectors". The work is run by principal investigator Prof. K. K. Singh with Prof. Somnath Chattopadhyaya as coordinator, and it is hosted by the institute's Mechanical Engineering department. This is hands-on engineering rather than desk research — the person taken in will build and test safety hardware for the heavy vehicles that move around working mines, which means real mine visits and field trials, not only lab work. Mechanical, automobile, production or manufacturing engineers who are comfortable with simulation software will be at home here.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Project tenure: The project runs for 24 months with effect from 24 February 2026, so the engagement is purely project-based and ends with the project.
• Consolidated pay: The fellowship is consolidated and no HRA is paid on top of it, so budget for your own rent.
• Stay at Dhanbad: Candidates must make their own arrangements for staying at Dhanbad if they need to — the institute does not promise accommodation for this engagement.
• Shortlisting is by merit: Meeting the minimum qualification does not get you an interview call. IIT (ISM) Dhanbad shortlists on merit and on what the project needs, and only shortlisted candidates are told the interview date.
• Age relaxation by discretion: Beyond the relaxation that reserved-category candidates get on production of certificates from authorised government agencies, the selection committee can recommend relaxation for a suitably qualified and experienced candidate.
• No travel money: No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview.

• Design and develop the advanced anti-collision system for heavy vehicles used in mining operations
• Use design and simulation tools such as ANSYS and LS-Dyna during the development work

• Test the system and record how it performs against the project's design targets
• Collect field data from the trials and analyse it
