Territorial Army (TA) Officer Recruitment 2026 - 5 Posts
The Directorate General Territorial Army, under the Ministry of Defence, has released a fresh notification inviting applications from Ex Armed Forces Commissioned Officers for a commission in the Territorial Army as an Officer (Provincial TA). The Territorial Army is a part-time commitment and not a full-time career — it lets officers who have left active service put on the uniform again for short periods each year while continuing their civilian job or business. Only officers who have completed their tenure or applied for premature retirement from the Army, Navy, or Air Force can apply; those who were removed, dismissed, or resigned from service are not eligible for this recruitment.
Territorial Army officers serve the nation in two capacities — as a civilian in their day job and as a soldier when called for training or embodiment. Selection happens purely through an interview, so there is no written exam to prepare for, which makes this a straightforward process for officers who already meet the eligibility conditions.
Who Can Apply?
- Qualification: You must hold a graduation degree from a recognized university.
- Eligibility: Only Ex Armed Forces Commissioned Officers (Army, Navy, or Air Force) can apply — civilian candidates will be rejected without intimation.
- Employment status: You must be gainfully employed or self-employed at the time of applying; unemployed applicants are considered ineligible.
- Nationality: You must be a citizen of India. Special provisions exist for Gorkha subjects of Nepal and certain persons of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, or East African countries.
- Medical fitness: You must be physically and medically fit in all respects, meeting medical category S1H1A1P1E1.
- Serving members of the Regular Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, GREF, or Para Military forces are not eligible for this recruitment.
Age Limit
- You should be between 18 and 42 years old as on the date of application.
- Age Relaxation: The upper age limit may be relaxed at the discretion of the Chief of the Army Staff.
Salary
- On commission, you will be appointed as a Lieutenant with pay starting from Rs. 56,100 to Rs. 1,77,500 per month under Level 10 of the 7th Central Pay Commission.
- You will also get Military Service Pay of Rs. 15,500 per month, plus pay and allowances similar to Regular Army Officers whenever you are embodied for training or military service.
- As you get promoted, pay increases at every rank — Captain (Level 10A, Rs. 61,300-1,93,900), Major (Level 11, Rs. 69,400-2,07,200), Lieutenant Colonel (Level 12A, Rs. 1,21,200-2,12,400), Colonel (Level 13, Rs. 1,30,600-2,15,900), and Brigadier (Level 13A, Rs. 1,39,600-2,17,600) — all with the same Military Service Pay.
- You become eligible for terminal gratuity on retirement once you complete a minimum of 4 years of aggregate embodied service, along with disability family pension under certain conditions.
Selection Process
The selection will be done in 3 stages:
- Screening by Army Headquarters Selection Board (ASB): Held at Directorate General Territorial Army, New Delhi. This is only an interview — there is no written exam.
- Medical Examination: Recommended candidates undergo a medical check at the Armed Forces Clinic, New Delhi.
- Police Verification: Conducted for final selection before you are commissioned.
After selection, you will undergo Pre-Commission Training as per TA Rule 20A, followed by a two-month Annual Training Camp every year, including your first year of service.
