The Solid State Physics Laboratory (SSPL), which functions under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Ministry of Defence, has invited applications for 65 paid internship seats at its Lucknow Road campus in Timarpur, Delhi. SSPL works on advanced semiconductor materials, MEMS, MMICs, acoustic sensor systems, laser diodes, IR sensors, and nanotechnology, so this internship gives you rare hands-on exposure to defence research. Only final year (last semester) students from the listed disciplines can apply, and the internship runs for a full 6 months with a fixed stipend paid directly to your bank account.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: You need to be pursuing a B.E./B.Tech OR M.Sc./M.Tech (or an equivalent degree) in Physics, Chemistry, Electronics, Electrical, Material Science, Quantum Technology, Laser Optics, or Semiconductor Device.
• Eligibility: Only final year (last semester) students are eligible. If you have already graduated, you cannot apply for this internship.
• Duration: The internship period can range from 4 weeks (minimum) to 6 months (maximum), but only interns who complete the full 6 months receive the stipend.
• Place of Work: Solid State Physics Laboratory, Lucknow Road, Timarpur, Delhi – 110054.

Internship Terms and Conditions

• DRDO will not be responsible for any injuries you sustain during the internship period.
• You need to handle lab equipment like computers carefully — if you damage or degrade any equipment, you will have to compensate DRDO for it.
• You cannot disclose or publish any restricted or confidential DRDO-related information on any platform (newspapers, social media, etc.). An undertaking to this effect will be taken from you, and violations are dealt with under the Official Secrets Act.
• No leave is given during the internship except sick leave on production of a valid medical prescription. Gazetted/closed holidays applicable at the lab will also apply to you.
• Completing the internship does not guarantee a job offer at DRDO.

Salary

• You will get a fixed monthly stipend of Rs. 5,000 during your internship.
• The stipend is released in two equal instalments of Rs. 15,000 each — one after you complete 3 months and one after you complete 6 months — through electronic transfer.
• You must maintain a minimum 15 days attendance every month for it to count as a regular month.
• Any other expenses like lodging, boarding, transport, or medical costs during the internship will be borne by you, not by DRDO.

Selection Process

SSPL will select interns through:

1. Application Screening: Your application and documents will be checked against the eligibility criteria for your discipline.
2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be selected based on an interview conducted by SSPL.

3. Get a Character Certificate and a recommendation letter/NOC from your institute, on institute letterhead, clearly mentioning your internship start date.
