About This Job

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is hiring for approximately 12,256 Group B and Group C posts in central government Ministries, Departments and Organisations through the Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGL) 2026. If you have a Bachelor's degree from a recognised university, you can apply online. The last date to apply is 22 June 2026 (23:00 hours). Salary ranges from Rs. 25,500 (Pay Level 4) to Rs. 1,51,100 per month (Pay Level 8) plus DA, HRA and other allowances.

SSC Combined Graduate Level Examination 2026 - 12256 Posts

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) under the Department of Personnel and Training has released Notice F. No. HQ-C11018/1/2026-C-1 for filling approximately 12,256 vacancies in various Group "B" and Group "C" posts across Ministries, Departments, Organisations of Government of India, and various Constitutional Bodies, Statutory Bodies and Tribunals. This is one of the biggest central government recruitment drives of 2026 covering Assistant Audit Officer, Assistant Section Officer, Inspector, Sub Inspector, Auditor, Accountant, Tax Assistant and many more posts. Application fee is only Rs. 100, with women, SC, ST, PwBD and Ex-Servicemen fully exempted.

Reservation for SC, ST, OBC, EWS, Ex-Servicemen and PwBD candidates as determined by the indenting Ministries / Departments. ESM reservation is for Group "C" posts only.

Nationality

  • You must be a Citizen of India, OR a subject of Nepal / Bhutan, OR a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962, OR a person of Indian origin migrated from specified countries with intention to settle in India.

Educational Qualification (as on 01-08-2026)

  • Assistant Audit Officer / Assistant Accounts Officer: Bachelor's Degree from a recognised University. (For State Cadre posts: Proficiency in regional/official language at matriculation level certificate required.) Desirable: CA / CMA / CS / Master's in Commerce / Business Studies / Business Administration (Finance) / Business Economics.
  • Junior Statistical Officer: Bachelor's Degree with 60% marks in Mathematics at 12th level, OR Bachelor's Degree with Statistics as one of the subjects.
  • Statistical Investigator Grade-II: Bachelor's Degree in Statistics / Mathematics / Economics / Demography / Population Studies / Operation Research / IT / Computer Science / Computer Engineering / Computer Technology / Computer Application / Data Science / Artificial Intelligence.
  • All Other Posts: Bachelor's Degree from a recognised University or equivalent.
  • Final-year candidates can apply but must possess the essential qualification as on 01.08.2026.

Selection Process

Selection is done through a two-tier Computer Based Examination:

  1. Tier-I (Computer Based Exam): 100 questions for 200 marks in 1 hour. Four subjects of 25 questions each (50 marks each): General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, English Comprehension. Sectional timer of 15 minutes per subject. Negative marking of 0.50 marks per wrong answer. Set in English and Hindi (except English Comprehension).
  2. Tier-II (Computer Based Exam): Three papers in separate shifts.
    - Paper-I (Compulsory for all posts): Session-I (2 hrs 15 min): Mathematical Abilities + Reasoning & General Intelligence (60 Qs, 180 marks) + English Language & Comprehension + General Awareness (70 Qs, 210 marks) + Computer Knowledge Test (20 Qs, 60 marks). Session-II (15 min): Data Entry Speed Test (2000 key depressions in 15 min, qualifying).
    - Paper-II: Statistics — 100 questions for 200 marks in 2 hours (for JSO & SI Grade-II posts).
    - Paper-III: General Studies (Finance & Economics) — 100 questions for 200 marks in 2 hours (for AAO/AAO posts).
    Negative marking: 1 mark for Section-I, II, III of Paper-I; 0.50 marks for Paper-II and Paper-III.
  3. Document Verification: Candidates qualifying Tier-II are called for document verification by the User Department.
  4. Physical / Medical Standards: For specific posts like Inspector (Central Excise / Examiner / Preventive Officer), Inspector and Sub-Inspector in CBN, Sub-Inspector in NCB / CBI / NIA, UDC/SSA in BRO etc.

Marks normalisation will be applied as per SSC Notice dated 02.06.2025 if Tier-I is conducted in multiple shifts. Final allotment of posts is based on merit-cum-preference.

How to Apply

  1. Go to the SSC website at https://ssc.gov.in or download the My SSC mobile app from Google Play Store.
  2. Complete the One-Time Registration (OTR) if you have not done so on the new SSC website (the old OTR from ssc.nic.in will not work).
  3. Opt for Aadhaar Based Authentication during OTR (recommended).
  4. Fill the online application form for CGL 2026 with all required details.
  5. Capture your photograph live through the application module — pre-existing photos will be rejected (except for Aadhaar-authenticated candidates).
  6. Upload your scanned signature (JPEG/JPG, 10-20 KB, 6.0 cm x 2.0 cm).
  7. Pay the fee of Rs. 100 online via BHIM UPI / Net Banking / Visa / Mastercard / Maestro / RuPay (if not exempted).
  8. Submit the application before 22 June 2026 (23:00 hours) and take a printout.
  9. You can correct the application during 29 June - 1 July 2026 (with correction charges).

Responsibilities

  • Handle file processing, noting, drafting and office correspondence as per Manual of Office Procedure
  • Prepare reports, statements, MIS data and policy notes for senior officers
  • Assist in audit, accounts, taxation, enforcement or investigation work as per the allotted post and Ministry
  • Inspect tax records, business premises, customs/excise warehouses or revenue-generating establishments (for Inspector/Sub-Inspector posts)
  • Maintain office records, files, statutory registers and database in SPARROW / e-Office systems
  • Coordinate with field officers, banks, taxpayers and statutory bodies on behalf of the department
  • Conduct data entry, statistical analysis and survey work for posts in Statistics and CSO
  • Participate in raids, seizures, investigations and court proceedings (for Sub-Inspector / Inspector roles in CBI / NIA / NCB / ED)
