About This Job

Office of the Registrar General & Census Commissioner, India (ORGI) has released notification for 58 Executive Officer (Census) posts on deputation basis. Candidates with a Bachelor's degree and 5 years of government service experience can apply offline. Last date to apply is 02 April 2026. Age limit is up to 56 years.

The Office of the Registrar General & Census Commissioner, India (ORGI), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, has invited applications for 58 posts of Executive Officer (Census) on a deputation basis. These are temporary posts created for the upcoming Census-2027 operations.

This recruitment is only open to serving central and state government officers. Private sector candidates or fresh graduates cannot apply for this post. The selected officers will be posted at ORGI Headquarters in New Delhi or at State Census Directorates across India. The tenure is up to 31 March 2030.

Who Can Apply

You must be a serving government officer to be eligible for this post. Here are the key conditions:

  • You must hold a Bachelor's degree from a recognised university.
  • You must have at least 5 years of experience in census operations, large-scale surveys, data collection, or general administration in a government organisation.
  • You must be working at Pay Level 8 to 11 (as per the 7th Pay Commission) with the required years of service at that level.
  • Your age must not be more than 56 years as on 02 April 2026.

Salary

The selected officer will be placed in Pay Level 11 of the 7th Central Pay Commission Pay Matrix.

  • Pay Scale: Rs. 67,700 to Rs. 2,08,700 per month
  • Other allowances as per central government rules will also apply.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, coordination, and execution of Census-2027 field operations
  • Supervise data collection activities and manage field enumerators
  • Monitor progress of census work in the assigned region or district
  • Maintain records, registers, and reports related to census operations
  • Coordinate with state government offices, local bodies, and district administration
  • Ensure quality and accuracy of data collected during enumeration
  • Handle administrative and logistical tasks related to census field work
  • Prepare progress reports and submit them to senior officers at ORGI
  • Follow all guidelines and instructions issued by ORGI for Census-2027

Experience

5.0 - No limit years

5 years experience in census operations, large-scale surveys, data collection, or general administration in a government organisation. Must be serving at Pay Level 8 to 11.

Exam Pattern

There is no written exam for this post. Selection is entirely merit-based and is done through document screening.

The selection committee will evaluate candidates based on:

  • Bio-data screening — your qualifications, experience, and suitability for the post
  • Experience check — verified experience in census, surveys, data collection, or administration
