Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), India's Maharatna energy major, has released Advertisement No. 2/2026 (R&P) to recruit 52 Geologists and Engineers at the E1 level through a Computer Based Test (CBT). ONGC contributes over 73% of India's crude oil production and 57% of India's gas production, with operations spread across 18 countries, so this is a strong launchpad for young science and engineering graduates. This is a direct entry into ONGC's officer cadre — no prior work experience is required, so freshers can apply along with early-career professionals.

ONGC currently employs around 22,600 professionals and is investing heavily in natural gas, renewables, and new-age exploration technology, which means fresh engineers and geologists joining now get exposure to some of the most advanced projects in the energy sector. Along with the pay package, you also get long-term career stability that is hard to find in the private sector.

Who Can Apply?

For Petroleum Engineering (9 posts):

  • Graduate Degree in Petroleum Engineering or Applied Petroleum Engineering, with at least 60% marks. Candidates with an Applied Petroleum Engineering degree can be considered for only 7 of the 9 vacancies.

For Mechanical Engineering (27 posts):

  • Graduate Degree in Mechanical Engineering with at least 60% marks.

For Chemical Engineering (10 posts):

  • Graduate Degree in Chemical Engineering with at least 60% marks. BE/B.Tech in Chemical Sciences and Technology will not be accepted for this stream.

For Instrumentation Engineering (2 posts):

  • Graduate Degree in Instrumentation Engineering with at least 60% marks.

For Geology (4 posts):

  • Postgraduate Degree in Geology, or M.Sc./M.Tech in Petroleum Geoscience, or M.Sc./M.Tech in Petroleum Geology, or M.Tech in Geological Technology — all with at least 60% marks.

Note: qualifications are strict — no equivalent qualification (like AMIE) will be accepted, and you must have already completed your degree by the last date of application. Your college/university degree must be approved by a recognized statutory body such as AIU, UGC, or AICTE. If your marksheet shows CGPA/OGPA/CPI instead of percentage, you will need a conversion certificate from your institute at the time of document verification.

Reservation Certificates:

  • OBC (NCL) certificate must be issued on or after 01 April 2026 by the competent authority.
  • EWS candidates must submit an Income and Asset Certificate (issued on or after 01 April 2026) at the time of interview.
  • If a vacancy is not reserved for your category, you can still apply as an unreserved candidate, but no age relaxation will be given in that case, except for PwBD candidates.

Age Limit

  • For the Engineering streams (Petroleum, Mechanical, Chemical, Instrumentation), you should be under 26 years (UR/EWS), 29 years (OBC-NCL), or 31 years (SC/ST) as on the last date of application.
  • For the Geology stream, the maximum age is 27 years (UR/EWS), 30 years (OBC-NCL), or 32 years (SC/ST).
  • PwBD candidates get extra relaxation — up to 36-42 years depending on category and stream.
  • Ex-Servicemen can apply up to 31-32 years across all categories.
  • Departmental candidates get relaxation as per their category, plus the years of service already rendered in ONGC, and are given first consideration in selection.

Salary

  • Selected candidates get a Basic Pay Scale of Rs. 60,000 to Rs. 1,80,000 per month at the E1 level, with a 3% annual increment.
  • On top of Basic Pay, you get allowances worth 35% of Basic Pay under the Cafeteria Approach, plus Dearness Allowance, HRA or Company Accommodation, Contributory Provident Fund, Conveyance Maintenance, Leave Encashment, Performance Related Pay (PRP), medical facility for self and dependents, Gratuity, Post Retirement Benefit Scheme, and Composite Social Security Scheme.
  • The total compensation package works out to approximately Rs. 26 lakhs CTC per annum.

Selection Process

ONGC selects candidates in three stages:

  1. Computer Based Test (CBT): An objective-type test covering your Concerned Subject, General Awareness, Aptitude, and English Language, to be completed in 2 hours.
  2. Personal Interview: Based on your CBT score, you are shortlisted for interview in a 1:5 ratio.
  3. Medical Examination: You must clear ONGC's Medical Examination of Employees Rules (available on the ONGC website) before you get the final offer of appointment.

Mere appearance in the medical examination does not guarantee selection — only candidates declared medically fit will get the offer of appointment. In case of a tie in total marks, the candidate scoring higher in the CBT is ranked senior, and if still tied, the older candidate is ranked senior.

  3. Fill in the online application and choose only one Engineering/Academic stream.
  4. Keep your documents ready before you start: a recent color photo (20-50 KB) and signature (10-20 KB) in JPG format, plus PDF copies of your Class 10 certificate, degree certificate, marksheets, photo ID proof and PAN card (each under 500 KB).
  5. Submit the form before the deadline. If you submit multiple applications, only your latest one will be considered.
