About This Job

NITR JRF Food Processing Recruitment 2026: Overview
National Institute of Technology Rourkela (NITR) is engaging a Junior Research Fellow in its Department of Food Process Engineering for a project on improved parboiled rice technology and selected extruded products. The IIT Kharagpur-funded work brings together food engineering, agricultural processing and equipment-based experimentation, with a practical focus on how rice is soaked, parboiled, milled, aged and converted through extrusion. You will work with the project investigators on research and development linked to the approved objectives rather than a routine teaching assignment. This is a strong fit if you want hands-on exposure to grain processing systems and can connect experimental work with engineering analysis.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Nature of engagement: The fellowship is purely temporary and contractual. It does not create a claim to a regular NIT Rourkela appointment.
- Project-linked tenure: The engagement is co-terminus with the sponsored project and depends on its continuation. The project record gives 24 March 2028 as the scheduled completion point.
- Research setting: You will work in the Food Process Engineering department with the principal investigators and use the institute's project facilities for the approved experiments.
- Experimental focus: The work spans paddy soaking, parboiling, milling, rice ageing and extrusion processing, so careful recording of operating conditions and observations will matter throughout the study.
- Equipment exposure: Applicants with practical familiarity with a twin-screw extruder, rice milling or paddy-parboiling systems will be better placed to begin laboratory work quickly.
- Engineering tools: Machine design, CAD, AI-ML modelling and CFD simulation are useful supporting areas because they can help connect processing trials with equipment and flow behaviour.
- National tests: A GATE, NET or other relevant national-level qualification is an added advantage, but the notice presents it as a preference rather than the baseline degree condition.
- Interview update: The institute will announce the interview details later. Keep checking the official fellowship page and the email address used with your form.
Application Submission Notes
Use the official NIT Rourkela Project Fellow application form linked on the SRICCE career page. The post notice does not provide a separate online application portal, so complete the prescribed form carefully and use the project-investigator contact details in the notice if you need to confirm its delivery channel.
Make your academic specialisation and project fit easy to check, especially where your degree title uses wording different from the branches listed in the notice. If you claim experience with food-processing equipment, CAD, AI-ML or CFD, describe the actual laboratory, design or modelling work briefly and consistently in the form; do not rely on a software name alone to show practical experience.
Responsibilities
- Run research experiments on paddy soaking, parboiling, milling, and rice ageing
- Operate extrusion and grain-processing equipment safely during project trials
- Record process settings, observations, and test results in organised research logs
- Analyse experimental data against the approved project objectives
- Support machine-design, CAD, AI-ML, or CFD work where the study needs it
- Prepare technical updates and discuss findings with the project investigators
