National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar has invited applications for its Satyendra Nath Bose Summer Internship Program 2026. A total of 36 intern positions are available across 10 departments covering Engineering, Management, and Science streams. The internship runs for a minimum of 6 weeks between June 1 and July 31, 2026. The last date to apply is April 15, 2026. Both internal and external students from institutions across India can apply.

NIT Silchar Summer Internship 2026 — 36 Positions

NIT Silchar, established in 1967 and ranked 50th in the NIRF Engineering Rankings (2025), is one of India's top technical institutions in the Northeast. This summer internship program — named after the legendary physicist Satyendra Nath Bose — gives students from across India a chance to work on research projects under NIT Silchar faculty mentorship. You can choose to do the internship online or offline (for external candidates). On successful completion, you will receive an internship certificate.

Who Can Apply?

Both internal students (NIT Silchar) and external students (from other institutions across India) can apply. Your passout year must be 2027.

Engineering Candidates

• B.Tech pre-final year (3rd year, after completing 6th semester) in CE, ME, CSE, ECE, EE, or EIE
• CPI: 7.0 or 70% for external students, CPI 6.0+ for internal students

Management Candidates

• BBA (UG) — 2nd year (after 4th semester)
• BBA Honours (UG) — 3rd year (after 6th semester)
• MBA (PG) — 1st year (after 2nd semester)
• CPI: 7.0 or 70% for external students, CPI 6.0+ for internal students

Science Candidates (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics)

• 2-year M.Sc. — 1st year (after 2nd semester)
• Integrated M.Sc./BS-MS (5-year) — 4th year (after 8th semester)
• 4-year B.S. — 3rd year (after 6th semester)
• 3-year B.Sc. — 2nd year (after 4th semester)
• CPI: 7.0 or 70% for external students, CPI 6.0+ for internal students

Stipend / Fellowship

• No stipend or fellowship is provided under this internship program
• No accommodation will be given to external candidates choosing the offline mode
• On successful completion, you will get an internship certificate (soft/hard copy)

Application Fee

• No application fee — the application is free for all categories

Selection Process

1. Contact a Faculty Mentor — Email an NIT Silchar faculty member in your chosen department and get their consent via email
2. Submit Application — Fill the online Google Form and attach Annexure-I (signed by your HOD)
3. Application Review — NIT Silchar will review all applications thoroughly
4. Shortlist Notification — Selected students will be informed via email by April 30, 2026

How to Apply

1. Visit the official NIT Silchar internships page at www.nits.ac.in/academic/internships and check the eligibility criteria
2. Browse the faculty list on www.nits.ac.in for your target department and email the faculty member requesting internship mentorship
3. Once you get email consent from the faculty, download Annexure-I (application form) from the website
4. Fill Annexure-I completely and get it signed by your HOD with stamp
5. Prepare a research/project proposal (500-word summary + 200-word importance statement)
6. Fill and submit the online Google Form before April 15, 2026
7. Important: Do not send multiple applications with multiple supervisors — your application will be rejected

• Internship Duration: June 1, 2026 to July 31, 2026 (minimum 6 weeks)
• Certificate Expected: Third week of October 2026 (tentative)

• Work on a research or project proposal under the guidance of an NIT Silchar faculty mentor
• Follow the research methodology and timeline set by your assigned faculty mentor
• Prepare and submit a detailed internship report (PDF) at the end of the program
• Prepare and deliver a presentation (PPT) to the host faculty after completing the internship
• Maintain regular communication with your faculty mentor throughout the 6-week duration
• Assist in ongoing departmental research activities as directed by the mentor
