Mumbai Suburban Kotwal Recruitment 2026: Overview

District Collectorate, Mumbai Suburban, Maharashtra is recruiting Kotwals for the establishments of the Andheri, Borivali and Kurla Tahsildars. These are full-time, temporary appointments paid on an honorarium basis. The notice treats each taluka as its own recruitment unit, so your place of residence determines the office to which you can apply.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Nature of service: Kotwal is an unclassified post. The notice expressly excludes retirement benefits, so you should understand this condition before accepting an appointment.
  • Local connection: You must live in the taluka for which you apply and know the local area. An application made to another taluka will be rejected and will not be considered for appointment there.
  • Posting and transfers: You can be assigned to any vacant Talathi unit within your taluka, regardless of where you live within it. You must accept transfers within that taluka and give the prescribed bond.
  • Reserved-category appointments: Caste validity must be established within six months of appointment where applicable. Failure to meet this condition can end your service.
  • Women’s reservation: The notice provides a women’s quota within the relevant categories. If suitable women are unavailable in a category, the corresponding posts may be filled by men from that category under the stated rules.
  • Other reservation claims: The notice says the usual horizontal benefits for specified groups do not apply to this unclassified cadre. Reserved-category migrants from other states are not considered for reserved posts in this drive.
  • Joining: An appointment can be cancelled if you do not report within the prescribed joining period. A waiting list remains available for one year to fill later vacancies under the notice’s terms.
  • Changes to recruitment: The Collector may change the requirement or cancel part or all of the process. False information or breach of recruitment rules can lead to disqualification, including action after appointment.

Application Submission Notes

Choose your own taluka office: Send the prescribed form in a sealed envelope by post or deliver it in person during working hours, excluding public holidays. You cannot apply through two talukas. The application must reach the correct office within the notified window.
