Karnataka Teacher Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Department of Public Instruction, under the Karnataka School Education Department, is filling 15,000 teaching posts in government primary and high schools for the 2026-27 academic session: Graduate Primary Teacher (GPT), Assistant Master (AM), Primary School Teacher (PST), Physical Education Teacher (PET) and Computer Science Teacher (CST). The drive covers 6,967 posts in the Kalyana Karnataka region and 8,033 posts in the rest of Karnataka. This is one of the largest teacher recruitment drives in recent years — a big opportunity if you hold a B.Ed or D.El.Ed degree along with a valid TET certificate.

• Graduate Primary Teacher (GPT): 8,500 posts
• Assistant Master (AM): 4,500 posts

Service Conditions and Caveats

• TET is mandatory: you cannot apply without a valid Karnataka TET (K-TET) Paper-II or CTET Paper-II certificate, whatever your degree.
• Merit formula: your final merit uses a 90% weightage from your CET and TET marks combined and a 10% weightage from your academic qualification marks, followed by document verification.
• Regional earmarking: the Kalyana Karnataka posts are filled separately from the rest-of-state posts, so check which region's quota your application falls under.
• Reservation and age relaxation: reserved-category candidates get upper-age relaxation under Karnataka government rules; the detailed district-wise reservation tables are in the official notification.

Application Submission Notes

Registration is on the GSTR-2026 portal of the Government of Karnataka Centralized Admission Cell at sts.karnataka.gov.in/GPSTRNHK, not on the department website that hosts the notification. You register with your SSLC details (KSEAB/KSEEB), your name as on the SSLC marks card, a mobile number verified by OTP and an email address, then log in to fill the form, upload your certificates, TET certificate and photo, and pay the fee online.

Keep the registered mobile number active: the portal says all further communication goes to that number only.

Corrigenda and Notices

• Application window extended (read on the STS portal, 7 October 2026): applicant registration and payment are open until 26 October 2026, 23:59. The earlier 7 September 2026 closing date no longer applies.
• CET date: the earlier tentative 5-6 October 2026 schedule preceded the extension; the exam date is yet to be announced on the official portal.
