JIPMER, Puducherry, an Institution of National Importance under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, has released Notice No. 103/2026 for direct recruitment to 39 regular Nursing Officer posts (Group B, Level 7). Selection happens through NORCET-11, a common eligibility test conducted by AIIMS, New Delhi for Nursing Officer posts across several participating AIIMS/institutes — JIPMER is one of them, and your final posting after qualifying will be at JIPMER, Puducherry only. At least 80% of these posts are reserved for women candidates, and the number of vacancies is tentative and may change before the exam.

Who Can Apply?

Option I - B.Sc Nursing:

  • B.Sc.(Hons.) Nursing or B.Sc. Nursing, or B.Sc.(Post-Certificate)/Post-Basic B.Sc. Nursing, from an Indian Nursing Council/State Nursing Council recognized institute or university.
  • You must be registered as a Nurse & Midwife with a State/Indian Nursing Council.
  • No prior work experience is required under this option.

Option II - GNM Diploma:

  • Diploma in General Nursing Midwifery (GNM) from an Indian Nursing Council/State Nursing Council recognized institute, board or council.
  • You must be registered as a Nurse & Midwife with a State/Indian Nursing Council.
  • You need at least 2 years' experience in a hospital with a minimum of 50 beds, gained after completing your GNM qualification.

Age Limit

  • You should be up to 35 years old for JIPMER posts, as on 13 August 2026 (the closing date of online registration).
  • Age Relaxation: SC/ST candidates get 5 years, OBC candidates get 3 years. PwBD candidates get 10 years (maximum age not exceeding 56), PwBD+OBC get 13 years, and PwBD+SC/ST get 15 years (maximum age not exceeding 56 in both cases).
  • Ex-Servicemen: Length of military service plus 3 years (General), plus 6 years (OBC), or plus 8 years (SC/ST).
  • Central Government Civilian Employees (Group B posts, minimum 3 years' regular service): General candidates get 5 years, OBC get 8 years, and SC/ST get 10 years relaxation.
  • The age limit is also relaxable for government servants as per Government of India instructions.

Salary

  • Selected candidates will get a salary at Level 7 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix (pre-revised Pay Band-2 of Rs. 9,300-34,800 with Grade Pay of Rs. 4,600), starting from around Rs. 44,900 per month.
  • You will also get DA, HRA, TA and other allowances admissible to Central Government servants posted at Puducherry.

Selection Process

NORCET-11 is conducted in two stages, both computer-based tests (CBT):

  1. Stage I - NORCET Preliminary (Qualifying): 100 MCQs for 100 marks in 90 minutes (20 questions on General Knowledge & Aptitude, 80 questions from the Nursing syllabus). This stage only qualifies you for Stage II and is not counted for final merit.
  2. Stage II - NORCET Main: 160 MCQs for 160 marks in 180 minutes, with case-scenario based questions testing your nursing skills. Your final merit list is based only on this stage.
  3. Document Verification: Provisionally qualified candidates must produce original certificates for verification.

Negative marking of 1/3 mark applies for each wrong answer in both stages. Qualifying marks in Stage I are 50 percentile for UR/EWS, 45 percentile for OBC, and 40 percentile for SC/ST (with a 5 percentile relaxation for PwBD candidates in each category). Candidates equal to 5 times the seats in each category are called for Stage II.

How to Apply

  1. Go to the AIIMS exam portal at aiimsexams.ac.in.
  2. Complete your One Time Registration (OTR) if you haven't registered before.
  3. Fill in the NORCET-11 online application form and select JIPMER among your preferred institutes.
  4. Pay the application fee online through Debit Card, Credit Card or Net Banking.
  5. Upload your category certificate, No Objection Certificate (if currently employed in Government/PSU/Autonomous Body) and other required documents.
  6. Submit your application before 13 August 2026, 5:00 PM. No physical documents need to be posted.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to patients in wards, ICUs, OPDs and emergency areas
  • Administer medicines and treatments as prescribed by doctors
  • Monitor patient vitals and maintain accurate medical records
  • Assist doctors during rounds, procedures and emergencies
  • Follow infection control protocols and maintain hygiene standards on the ward
  • Work in rotational shifts, including night duty, as per the hospital roster
  • Educate patients and family members about care plans and medication
  • Maintain proper stock, handling and documentation of ward medicines and equipment

Exam Pattern
