Jharkhand Jail Warder Recruitment 2026 - 68 Posts

The Directorate of Prisons and Correctional Services, Government of Jharkhand has issued Advertisement No. 01/Jail/2026 for contractual engagement of warders in state jails. The posts are meant for retired personnel from the Army or paramilitary forces. This is a walk-in selection at Birsa Munda Central Jail, Hotwar, Ranchi, so no online application form is required.

The engagement will initially be for one year. It may be extended as needed, but it is not a regular government appointment. Who Can Apply?

• Service background: You must be a retired ex-serviceman or retired from an ex-paramilitary force.
• Work suitability: You should be fit for warder duty in jails and ready for training before posting.
• Preference: Lower-age retired personnel and Jharkhand residents will get preference as mentioned in the notice.
• Useful skills: Retired personnel with earlier health work in military hospitals, driver skills, computer operator skills or other technical skills may be preferred where useful.
• Regular job claim: This contract engagement does not create any right to a regular government job.

Age Limit

• Maximum age: 55 years as on 01 June 2026.
• Lower-age retired personnel will be given preference during engagement.

Salary

• Fixed monthly honorarium: Rs. 20,000 per month.
• After every year of service, the fixed honorarium may be increased by 8%.
• No other extra amount is mentioned in the notice.
• Travel allowance and daily allowance during government duty will be paid as per rules where applicable.

Selection Process

The selection is through a walk-in process and document checking:

1. Walk-in Interview: Report at the venue on 04 July 2026 between 08:00 AM and 04:00 PM.
2. Document Verification: Carry the filled application and all original certificates with self-attested copies.
3. Health and Physical Fitness Check: The prison department and nominated members will check whether you are suitable for jail warder duty.
4. Final Approval: Suitable candidates will be sent for approval and then asked to join after required formalities.

Original documents are mandatory. If you do not show the original certificates during checking, your application may not be considered. The department has also stated that no TA/DA will be paid for attending the walk-in interview.

Important Notes

• No TA/DA: You will not get travel allowance for attending the interview.
• Training: Selected retired personnel will get about one month of warder duty training before posting.

• Duty conduct: Indiscipline, absence from duty or bad conduct can lead to contract termination without separate notice.
• Police-family benefit: If an employee dies during duty, the same ex-gratia help given to state police personnel may apply, but it does not create a right to government appointment for dependants.
